game

I only saw one bad call by Chaney (TE reverse)

the defense played exceptionally well and A&M had a lot of drops.

we lost this game on fundamental foootball. we have a pass rush and will continue to for a long time. Chaney even called back to back run plays, which got us nothing; I think to stifle the dissenters. 2016 should be our year, next year should be a great year too. we're looking good and I challenge any dissenters to point to play calling as an excuse.

I like Chaney. But when any offensive coordinator (over a 4.5 season stretch - 3 at Tennessee not counting the year with Lane Kiffin and 1.5 at Arkansas) can only produce 5 SEC wins, it's going to get people's attention, especially if said coach is the only common denominator in the equation. Regarding the games at Tennessee, where he called the plays and won, if one factors in the quality of opposition at the time, it's not impressive. JMO.

Like I said, I like Chaney. I like him a lot and I want his offense to seal wins in SEC games, not stall out. Against quality defenses, it's the stalling out part that will not win games. And winning SEC games against quality opponents without stalling in the second half/fourth quarter is exactly what it will take to silence his critics.

...and whatever that takes, I very badly want to see it happen. The good news is, as you pointed out, the team continues to show a lot of improvement.

I just can't do it.

A play I can't get out of my head is the last TD aTm scored. How was that not a false start?

Gary Danielson was commending the WR on selling the play. How is not being called for a penalty selling the play?

The playing calling at the end of the first half was horrible. Got bailed out by the fake punt

This. I can't re-watch heartbreaking losses, especially one like the one that unfolded on Saturday.

This, and I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to talk about it. It might've been a totally different ballgame if we don't convert that fake, which was a great call by Bielema. Too bad the play has gotten a lot of press, because we might need to break it out again as we get into the meat of our SEC schedule.

I'm pretty sure it was a false start but I refuse to watch the game again and I doubt that calling the penalty would have helped us much. A&M was rollin'.

FWIW, I was very impressed with our improvement on defense.

Yep, its all Chaney's fault, yep.

You didn't. He just thinks Chaney is a genius (lol) and, evidently, we can't find better.

Chaney isn't really our problem. He's not our solution either.

To be fair, on the 4th down in OT...if AC follows his blockers and stays on the play its an easy first down.

ATM did drop several key passes. They catch those, it is also a different game.

No excuse for the tripping penalty. You can't blame the ref for calling it even if it didn't impact the play.

My ONLY beef with our offense is that we don't have much progression in our passing game. I appreciate that we'd rather have BA throw it away rather than throw another pick 6, so it probably just boils down to talent at WR and QB. The freshmen look good at WR so far.

Biggest improvement overall...our defensive backs. I mean...damn. They just woke up one day and decided to play the ball. Yes...the 3 TD passes by ATM were hard to swallow, but a DB falling down will happen sometimes, there's little doubt that everyone relaxed after the reciever clearly jumped with a no call in OT...and the other TD can be credited to excellent execution by ATM. We've broken up more passes this year than in the previous decade.

I like the improvement...now we need to keep bringing it. We actually can play with Bama.

I hated chaney at first, knowing we hired him just for pittman. He's starting to grow on me and his playcalling has been getting better.

I have noticed tendencies, especially at tennessee to choke away games, but I do like the improvement and I think his play calling will work once we're more experienced.

He definitely has improved with his play calling since last year. In fact, almost everything about the team has improved since last year. We also have some good recruits coming this next year and in combination with the players we have returning, I have to agree. We can only get better.

Agree 100%. I feel like I've been begging for a physical defense forever, and we finally seem to have the makings of one.

something else to think about, toliver gets hurt on a freak play in the 1st half & doesnt play the rest of the game. The 4th qrtr rolls around & weve got a walk-on DB trying to cover 6'5" receivers.
We lack depth on Defense, but the young guys are really good.

One thing about Chaney -- I'm skeptical that he's the solution at OC, however, Bert has shown before that he'll kick a coach to the curb who has shown that he's not cutting it (Markuson). Maybe he's seeing something with Chaney we're not regarding the calls, who knows.

I've been an ardent defender of Bert from day one, but the only thing that concerns me about him offensively is what happened with Matt Canada at Wisconsin. From what's been made public, apparently Bert got more involved with the offense after Paul Chryst took the HC job at Pitt and started overruling Canada's game plans for play sets. Apparently Canada stood up to him before the Big Ten title game and Bert relinquished control, and that's when they went beast mode and hung 70 on Nebraska in Bert's final game. I also thought it was telling that he didn't bring Canada with him to Fayetteville. Who knows, it could've just been a bunch of crap passed on to the media from Alvarez or a Wisconsin malcontent.

Might be true. But Bert has grown up a LOT as a coach since then I think.

At some point I think I'll be able to watch a replay.

The posts on here do a good job of putting things in perspective, even after such a disappointing loss.

A team that was pre-season 73rd in the nation outplayed a top ten team on a neutral field and should have won the game. No remaining game is an automatic loss and we won't be losing any games by 40+ points anytime soon.

We've got our national respect back already, definitely ahead of schedule.

Jury is still out with me on Cheney. We had zero down field passing game in the 4th, while a&m took their passing game to another gear that we obviously don't possess.

Was it completely due to a lack of talent or is Cheney tightening up to the point that he can't get us there?

Interesting article. It gives me incentive to pay more attention to the NC State offense than I have in the past. They certainly gave Florida State a good fight this past week.

Rewatching this game would be akin to hitting your thumb with a hammer...then doing it again on purpose.
