recent memory at UGA (or anywhere)?

- Sony Michel (RB), Nick Chubb (RB), Isaiah McKenzie (PR), Jeb Blazevich (TE), Lorenzo Carter (DE), Dominick Sanders (S), all have played huge roles for the Dawgs.

- Isaiah Wynn and Dyshon Sims have played quality minutes on the OL.

- Three true frosh CBs have also seen time: Malcolm Parrish, Rico Johnson, and Shaq Jones.

Can't speak for other teams, but this may be the most a Freshman class has contributed to UGA in quite a while.

As much as you credit them it is also be an indictment of the personnel misses and roster attrition. That said, the dudes on offense IMO are the real damn deal. It's only the defensive guys that I think are being used out of necessity.

All except for Lorenzo Carter, imvho. He is getting playing time regardless.

Pretty tough for a true freshman to come in and excel in the secondary...takes an elite talent.

That being said, Sanders, Parrish, Jones, and Rico Johnson are learning every week and all seem to have promising futures.

Parrish is going to be a stud before it's over and done. Watched that kid in HS the last few years ... a lot of raw talent there.

Yeah, I know these frosh DBs have been thrown into the fire early but, especially with a talent like Parrish, I'm hoping it will (eventually) pay big dividends.

I think Dominick Sanders is another star in the making, fwiw. And I've got my fingers crossed that Shaq Jones will end up making a huge contribution as well.

It is an impressive group. Freshmen used to NEVER see the field. Dooley, I believe, mad an exception for Herschel and still didn't start him at the beginning of 1980.

I think it's the 'Knowshon Moreno' rule. Ever since we redshirted Moreno and it kind of burned us, we've been burning redshirts like it's going out of style.

Can't say Richt doesn't adjust, because he adjusted his redshirting habits big time.

Of course, it helps when you have no DBs so you HAVE to play the true frosh.

The db's are learning in the trial by fire. Lets just hope they dont get discouraged....or so stressed by derrogatory comments they get blunted. Its a a ton of pressure, at 18 i wouldve snapped.

Nowadays, yes. Knowshon definitely taught St. Mark a lesson. In the waaaaay back, they just didn't play them. There was a freshman team, and they played there. Rarely did one see a varsity action.

I have always been of the opinion ... if the kid is extremely talented and gifted ... play the mutha. These days a stud is only going to be around until he's eligible for the NFL ... might as well get 3 years out of him instead of 2.

This is true, but Carter and Sanders are the real deal, imo

Mark Richt addressed this last week in his presser.

Basically said kids are coming out bigger, stronger, and faster. He said they are all better at understanding the college game too, since high schools are running more open offenses. Said that there are hundreds of training facilities around that are devoted to getting you college ready.

Technology is allowing them to learn more techniques and video of offenses to begin understanding.

Also said that more kids are going to camps and that most guys are doing football activities year round instead of 2-3 other sports.
