Where's the WR screens this year?

Last year, Malzahn ran the shite out of some WR screens to spread the defense out. That helped open up the middle of the field for running between the tackles. I know we all hate the WR screen, but there's a purpose for them. And the way defenses are crashing the line of scrimmage, they could turn into huge plays with just one good block.

Did you not see the screen to Ricardo last night. IT hit him in the chest and he dropped it

I think there were about 3 yesterday. One drop, one got a holding call and one went no where.
Seems like the wr screens are developing much slower this year as well.

First offensive play of the game was a screen to Ricardo for about 12 yards.

Whenever they try to run the screen there seems to be no blocking or one DB uncovered. This there is rarely gains on the play.

Exactly, three. Last year, we ran at least 10 or more per game.

Actually, one went for about 10 yards.

The problem many times with WR screens is the receiver believes he can juke out 1-2 defenders behind the LOS and go for a big gain. This maybe works against FCS schools, but it's out to lunch if we try to do this against LSU. Catch the ball and GO, don't dance around.

Our first offensive play was a screen to Louis for about 12. We also had another screen to him later that went for 10-12. We did not throw it much but other than the drop by Louis, it was successful.

It will continue to be successful the way defenses have been crashing LBs and Safeties at the LOS, selling out against the run.
