What's the Most Lane Could've Accomplished at USC Under Sanctions?

I'm not saying Lane didn't make mistakes at USC because I'm sure he did. But, is it fair to say he's a failure as a head coach when he was under major sanctions at USC?

I think he's more suited just sticking with running an offense.

I think that Lane is a better coordinator than HC...however, he did a great job at holding off the NCAA sanctions for a year so he could load up on recruits in the 2011 class and go to a bowl game before the sanctions hit.

I understand people like to see things in a black/white fashion. But, I don't think Lane has been in a situation where one can truly judge his head coaching prowess. I feel like an inconclusive rating of his head coaching skills is appropriate.

I think if Lane never left Tennessee they would be the favorite to win the east this year, and he may have already won an east crown.

Kiffin has an ego problem which really hurt his time at Oakland, Tenn and USC. He's in a perfect spot to resurrect his career so to speak. If he can learn from Saban he might just be that much better if some big school takes another chance on him. Being away from Coach O is probably helping as well. Those 2 together were just 2 loose cannons that were in over their head.

Who aside from Gruden has succeeded in Oakland recently?! Oakland is the worse franchise in the NFL.

Tennessee - inconclusive he was only there one season.

USC - major NCAA sanctions. Inconclusive once again.

Sunday is the 1 year anniversary of USC's 62-41 loss to Arizona State, and Kiffin was subsequently fired 6 hours later.

Point? He had a bad loss before he was fired. Please elaborate.

I'm just saying if he checks his ego at the door and learns some program mgmt from Saban on how to run things he could be a viable candidate down the line.
Oakland has been a coaching graveyard due to poor personnel decisions but at Tenn Kiffin was not gonna ascend over some of the SEC heavyweights, that's why he bolted for USC the first chance he got.

We will get to see how Lane does after Saban retires and he somehow ends up as the HC

He left Tennessee for USC because USC was his dream job and USC is a Gucci-level head coaching college football job. Tennessee won't ever be on USC's level.

I wouldn't rule it out. But, I'd much rather see Lane in Baton Rouge as head coach one day.

The Raiders are the worst franchise in the NFL, no one has been successful there in along time. Saban wasnt successful in Miami, does that mean he cant coach, no it doesnt.
In his 1 year at UT, he gave them their best year in like 7 or 8 years, recruited well, and was competitive with top tier teams, didnt get blown out...
Then his dream job came, cant blame him for leaving. Thats like LSU and Auburn fans coaching at Arkansas and then LSU or Auburn came calling, who wouldnt leave for their dream job? I would.
People forget he had his USC team the #1 team in the nation, yes it was preseason, but who else can say their team has been #1 preseason in the past 10 years?? Not very many teams, at all.
Sanctions hit hard and he fell apart.
For the record, I do not think he is a great head coach, but i think people tend to make it worse then what it really was. He was in 3 pretty bad situations. USC is a great job, but not under the sanctions they were under. He is definatly a great OC, I think if he stays at Bama a few years and learns from the best, gets his ego in order, and learns how to run a legit program, he will get his shot again at a major school. Hell, he isn't even 40 and hes been a NFL head coach, SEC head Coach, and USC head coach, and BAMA OC. I just want him to stay for a while, for us, and for him!

ALL this mixed with a huge ego, a bratty attitude and a big mouth has landed him as an OC.

Until Lane learns some humility and maturity, he won't be a HC any time soon. Saban will keep a muzzle on him like he does the rest of his staff and if LK can keep up the good work, some program may take a chance on him.
