Back up plan in the event we miss on D’Andre Walker

Don't think this will be an issue. More likely backup plan in case we miss on Sweat

But but but what about all the UGA fans that said he was a bad fit for Pruitt's defense?

He still is. We weren't going to pursue him until we lost and this is our way of sticking it to USCe.

That wasn't even hard, I just searched "Arden Key" started at the oldest thread and boom.

Key - we'll see what Pruitt does as far as recruiting him, but seems like a 4-3 guy

Well what we've seen so far is that we run a lot of 4 man fronts. None of us really knew what to expect from Pruitt...

Grantham wasn't on Key initially - no question about that. There was simply not a spot for him in his 3-4. Pruitt came in and picked up his recruiting some after an evaluation period. Pruitt is much more willing to move pieces around and get athletes onto the field some way, some how. See: Floyd, Jenkins and Carter all getting snaps, sometimes on the field at the same time. But we were a little late to the party at the time. However, Carolina has actively, albeit poorly, implemented some 3-4 looks into their D this year. I'm sure we've pointed that out to him and picked up his recruiting some.

I'm not a recruiting analyst, but that's my take.

ETA: If a recent recruiting update was correct concerning his weight (and you can never tell about the accuracy of measurables), he has gained 20-30 pounds over the span of 2014. That makes him even more intriguing of a prospect if true.

He has always been the most likely flip candidate in my mind. GA kid, we've got a class full of DEs, and people saying they're a package deal never works out (in this case w/ Wesley Green).

EDIT: And, oh yeah, he has already decommitted once,

I just can't fathom why he would flip. Lord knows our DE starting jobs and really the 2Deep will be wide open next year, and up for grabs on anyone.

Blackshear just got hurt a couple weeks ago and that might change his forecast for the next year, in regards to being ready to play as a true FR. We do have Sawyer and Wideman coming in, but Key saw those guys as part of the last class when he committed anyways. We also have Lewis, but he's a SDE, and Key is a WDE. Who knows, Key and Lewis might start next year. Right now, SC is grossly undersized at DE.

If I was a DE Fr looking for playing time immediately, that SC DE would look awesome, b/c there aren't any superstars at that position right now, at least not like we've had the past 5 years. Plus, SC is the best team in the SECe and this incoming class is only going to continue that.

Weren't one of you bragging about having 4-6 four star DE's committed? Maybe that scared him off.

JMHO but maybe Y'all should dump him and try to pick up a good WR that's over 6 feet tall. I can't believe how average Y'all are at that position.

IMO that works for new coordinators and assistants who bring in a new scheme from what was previously there, and has to work with existing skill-sets that don't exactly fit their schemes....

But UGA had a base 3-4, and Grantham was there long enough to recruit his defense full of 3-4 skill-set guys. Pruitt is a 3-4 guy - was weaned on it at Bama, and ran it at FSU primarily. The terminology and some key philosophies perhaps would change from the Grantham to Pruitt regimes, but the basic concepts are still the same. Of course Pruitt will implement some situational packages, as most smart DC's who don't have the sheer talent to just roll over everyone do, but at the end of the day the base package is still the base package.

Ward at USC came into this season talking like we'd utilize the 3-4 for like 2/3rds of our defensive schemes, but we've really only used it for certain snap and down situations. We've still been vastly a 4-3 scheme, or 4-2-5...

IMO, no matter what Key chooses to do, his situation is still the same: he'll never put on enough weight to be a 270+ lb DE, so he'll have to most likely be a tall 240-250 OLB at UGA, ala Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter.

In UGA's 3 games thus far, their 1st two gms they used the 3-4 as their base. Versus Troy they used a 3-3-5, with Dominick Sanders used as a "Star", whatever that is....
