Kevin Sumlin has some Nick Saban in him

I'm rewatching the Texas A&M - Rice game, and he said something pretty interesting in the interview at the end of the first half.
For those that don't know what happened, Texas A&M had just partially blocked a kick, picked it up, and taken it to the house with no time on the clock, only to see the touchdown taken away because the bench had cleared after the block (I think it was the right call). When asked about the play, Sumlin didn't even mention the call. He was furious that Armani Watts had picked up the ball in the first place with it being on Texas A&M's side of the line of scrimmage. I'm sure he coaches players to avoid the disaster there where the ball isn't picked up cleanly.
I just found it very interesting that he wasn't willing to dismiss the play just because it had a positive outcome. Reminded me quite a bit of Nick Saban at LSU when I was growing up. Dude was always chewing out players after what seemed to be positive plays.

He has something in him. I don't know that it's Nick Saban.

I remember a completely different interview, I thought Sumlin was talking about a guy making a play and the sideline screwing it up for him. Let me see if I can find the clip online...
ETA: Ok I rewatched, he pretty much said both.

We're all adults here, what happens between Sumlin and Saban is their own business.

If you're looking for anything but a bunch of shitty, sophomoric comments, you're going to be disappointed.
But good on you for attempting to start a somewhat cerebral discussion.

With a title like that? If you want people to take you seriously you have to choose your words properly....and know your audience.

Saban wasn't the first coach to find something to bitch about in an otherwise impressive performance. Most successful coaches have been like that.

Joking aside, it is a good sign that Sumlin is concerning himself with the small details that are the difference between being a good team and great one.

and that's why saban isn't seen as a "players coach". and thats why his turnover rate with administrators used to be absolutely horrible. he was the definition of a perfectionist and controlling to the extreme. i think he's mellowed out since then but he rubbed a lot of people working for him the wrong way when he was a LSU.

He seems to, once a year.

All of you suck.
Maybe I should have talked about what Les Miles would have said.
"Armani had a want to be in the endzone, but unfortunately the want of our team did not find the same page as that want."

False. Kevin Sumlin is everything Nick Saban wishes he could be.

He certainly is a good coach. However, I think Saban is a bit more...something. He's an extreme perfectionist. However, you can tell this is wearing on him as his old strategies aren't working as well on defense.
Sumlin from what I've seen doesn't have that edge that Saban has currently, and not even close to the mentality that Saban used to have.
