In Mobile we have a company that sends a charter bus to home Bama and AU games. Cost is about $45 a person. Figuring it up it seems like a fairly good deal to me. Gas is going to be about $70 bucks plus wear and tear on the car and I can drink and not worry about it. Only down side is we can't go to a bar after the game or post game tailgate. Anyone have experience doing this?

I've never done it, but that sounds like a great deal.

personally, I like getting to campus at daylight and having my own tailgate and whatnot, but for convenience's sake that deal sounds great.

I've ridden on a bus, if that helps. You couldn't pay me $45 to repeat the experience.

The have one from Buckhead to Athens that leaves the morning of and drives back a couple hours after the game. I haven't done it but a bunch of my friends have and they say it's a blast. They provided mimosas and bar specials for before the game.

I'd say do it. Like you said you can drink on the way there and you don't have to worry about parking.

I took one from Birmingham a few years ago, but only one way to Tuscaloosa. The ticket was round trip, but I wanted to stay and hang out with friends after the game, so I caught a ride back with a friend.

This one was pretty strict about no alcohol on the bus. I was pretty discreet with my airplane bottles though. It dropped us off on campus about an hour before kick so it also cuts into tailgating time. I'd do it again if it was time was a premium for some reason, but Birmingham is a lot closer than Mobile.

TAMU has buses that run from Kyle Field to a mall directly off the highway. Only used them once, but it was an excellent experience. Highly recommend.

They have something similar from downtown Houston to College Station. I think it might be the same service

The one from Mobile to T-Town allows alcohol otherwise I wouldn't bother. Its a three hour and change trip and the bus has satellite TV so you can watch the other games.

I think the one from Houston to CS you can bring you alcohol on and it has free wifi. They drop you off like 4 or 5 hours before kick and take you back an hour after the game ends. I haven't used it but my friends who have said it was pretty sweet

I have done a charter bus from Tunica to Oxford. It was cool. Got to drink on the bus and all.

I haven't really noticed or heard of them much for games in Athens, but they're a huge deal for the UGA-UF game with multiple buses leaving from each of the Golden Isles. Very popular with both the Greek crowds and the older alumni. I know of a few that cater lunch and booze on the buses down and food on the way back to the islands post game. Great deal, especially if you want to do a lot of drinking and are with a crowd but don't want to stay/set up a tailgate in Jacksonville.

Once, took an alumni bus from MGM to Starkvegas.. If you plan to do a day trip it is OK, but I prefer staying over the night.

Atlanta Auburn Club will usually do a charter trip or two each season - typically a home game and a somewhat nearby away game (Athens, Knoxville). I have never done it, but they fill up fairly quickly and must be popular enough for them to continue doing it.

Used to have one from Shreveport to BR. I remember in the late 80's it cost $25 for the bus and game ticket. Everyone got sloshed

Yes every year to UGA-UF. Nothing like mimosas at 7:30 AM on the way to Jacksonville to see the Dawgs. It is a great deal if you want convenience and in terms of not having to worry about driving or parking. I think you definitely can save yourself a lot of hassel if you are willing to give up the things you pointed out. Also, if you're going with a big group of people it is a great way for everyone to travel together. I will also add that although you may miss out on a post-game tailgate, the ride back after a big win on the bus is a blast with everyone.

Not yet, but this company is starting a gameday shuttle from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa next week. For $25 I get wifi, DirecTV with the SEC Network, and the bus has attendants with food and beverage service, or I can bring my own.

I think I'm going to try it at least once this year.

ETA - This is the same company that does the Houston-College Station bus.

Took one from NO to Baton Rouge for an LSU/Auburn game. Drank the whole way up and was dropped off right by the stadium. Thinking about doing one for a saints game from Shreveport this year.
