I'll agree with you guys on the probation thing. The NCAA is a corrupt bureaucracy and nothing more. Some schools can blatantly cheat for decades in every imaginable way, while others get slapped down for minor or inadvertent mistakes.

Auburn has had professors admit the academic cheating, about a dozen former players admit to being paid by boosters and coaches, paid the local/university police force to keep players out of jail (that's why their players only get into trouble when they leave the loveliest village or stick a gun in someone's face). They'll never be punished because the cheating goes all the way to the top and the NCAA doesn't like ugly scandals of that magnitude, and because Auburn pays the former NCAA director of enforcement a good salary to make sure it stays that way.
