Alex Byington @AUBlog
Malzahn announces kicker Daniel Carlson has won the punting job. "He's talented, talented enough to win the job against very good punters."

I just read this from PM as well. A little surprising, but he could be a good one.

I guess Hutchinson isn't all he was made out to be?

that's why it's surprising. I thought he was all-world coming out of high school. Not only that, but he learned behind maybe our best punter of this generation last year.

I hope they keep a close eye on his training and practice kicks.

If he's going to be an all-in-one then they need to treat his leg like a major league pitcher's arm.

IF we give a kicker or punter a scholarship, they better win the job. that is all.

Kicking is a more natural motion than pitching. Not that big of a deal.

I had to look him up. I'm ashamed that I'm not familiar with any of the new starters.

Of course, but kicking and punting are two different motions. I don't have a link right now, but I remember an NFL punter talking about the two different practices and how they specialize in either one or the other, but not both, because trying to do everything risks damaging the kicking leg. Also, pro kickers have their practice kicks tracked so they don't do too many - hence the reference.

Additionally, the whole one basket/all eggs approach.

Kicks look good in the link and he is definitely taller than Sean White. Damon Duval part deux

Based on his performance compared to the rest of his career, I'd say it was about 7 months ago.
