Have you been to Italy lately? Im heading over next week for a couple of weeks. Mainly in the countryside, doing some WWII research on my Dad. Share any info you want

Yeah it's quite an experience. After my trip there a few years ago Italy became my second favorite country. Don't know your travel restrictions, but in the countryside obviously Tuscany is remarkable just to look at. I can't remember exactly where, but we visited a castle that some of the Medici family was rumored to be hiding in and it was really cool. If you want me to go digging to look that up I can.
If you have time to travel around for leisure you should check out the Pompei area and go to Sorrento and Positano. Yeah Rome is the grand daddy of it all, but there is so much to do/see there that you could spend at least a week there and still not see everything you want to.

Actually I am not spending much time in Rome & Florence (where most go). I am trying to stay true to his route, which means starting at Naples and ending in Trieste - with lots in between. Luckily I have operational reports so I know where his unit was most of the time.
Looking forward to it in a big way!

My son and his wife have been several times and use the trains to get to the various cities/towns. I have not been but you might check this link.
I cannot endorse nor discourage usage of this link. ItaliaRail Italy

If the menu on a restaurant is pictures of pasta and sauce on the street it's shite. Do not roll into a Catholic Church without long pants/tank tops even if you're just going to admire the art.

Last time I was was 11 years ago. Food is top notch, as others have said.

My wife went for a month about ten years ago. She went with a friend who is Italian but lives in the US now and needed to return home to settle her mother's estate. She had a great time, but with a disclaimer based on your agenda. She personally didn't like Naples and the locals gave her the impression that it really wasn't the safest place for an outsider.
That was a decade ago so things may have changed.

No, but I've been to Kenner. Basically the same thing
jk, I've been to Italy and Naples was a drag.
