Montu Motors pulled up to the United States/Canada border in a Nissan Skyline GTR R32 at exactly 12 o’clock midnight on August 1, 2014, making their crossing precisely 25 years after the vehicle left the factory in 1989. Now this classic racing car that dominated competition for so many years is finally available to the American public. Auto enthusiasts and fans of The Fast and the Furious will recognize the Skyline GTR R32 as one of the most prized automobiles of the 1980s and 1990s, and finally they will be able to own one for themselves, thanks to the 25 year rule.

Equipped with the RB26DETT, arguably one of the best motors ever built, the Skyline GTR R32 offers exceptional performance, power, and speed. One of the most unique features of the Skyline GTR R32 is the ability to transfer up to 50 percent of the total power from the rear wheels to the front wheels, providing the driver with an unparalleled sensation of control and a highly enhanced feel for the road.

AWESOME!!!

So they have to be at least 25 years old, or have they changed the law to allow them altogether?

I want an R34.

oh wow. They're probably asking 80k-100k per car too. You can buy a JDM RB26 and put it in an old 300zx for $3500. It wouldn't be all wheel drive, but it would still be fun to drive.

Very nice ride.

Part of me wants to believe that there was some sort of conspiracy with allowing the car to be legal over here to begin with. Probably having to do with its raw power versus cost and the fact that it would absolutely kill the American muscle cars like the corvette, camaro, viper etc.

That being said, I need to up my baller game to own one, or I have to quit picking up responsibilities like wife, kids, and mortgages..

Due to the specifications of certain governmental regulating agencies like the EPA, DOT, NHTSA, and FMVSS, historically it has been illegal to import the Nissan Skyline GTR R32 and numerous other high-performance Japanese cars. However, a stipulation states that any cars that are 25 years old or older are not required to abide by these regulations and can therefore be driven legally in the United States.

What specifications does this car not abide by?

And it seems kind of stupid to just throw away these restrictions once it's 25 yrs+. Either have them or don't.
