WSJ Realigns College Football

What if schools were sorted into conferences based on their football strength?
To do that, Jonathan Jensen and Brian Turner chose to ignore geography and tradition, the typical forces in conference realignment. Instead, they focused solely on football and its financial implications, coming up with a formula that factored in every team's football revenue, winning percentage, computer ranking and attendance between 2003 and 2013. Then they sorted teams into clusters to figure out which schools were most alike—and should be playing each other.
Big five?

Texas A&M won't like this one bit

But there were some surprises in their analysis. They found that not all teams in top conferences deserved to be with their current peers. Boise State and Brigham Young would be promoted up, while 23 schools would be relegated, including Arizona, Baylor and Mississippi State.

WSJ didn't factor swagger into their equation, therefore, list is shite.

Dont care one way or the other. 2003-2013 was not the best of decades for A&M, so I'm somewhat surprised that we got as high as Level 2.

If they did it this way it should be like the Premier league where teams could move up or down depending on results.
Because in the case of TN and Bama if you did this 10 years ago TN would be in group 1 and Bama group 2. But right now it looks correct.
FSU should be in the first group and maybe USCw too.

Georgia Tech needs to be in the last cluster if at all.

Swap USC and ND
Swap FSU and Auburn
Then it'd be about right.

I would love it if college football did something similar.

Division 1 would be a blood bath.

Attendance seems to be the one thing propping up A&M

Have 15 team divisions. Play everyone in your division. Top 2 teams get promoted, bottom 2 get relegated. No bowls, champions is determined by record.

A relegation system like that in the EPL would be cool... would make for some strong negative recruiting.
