That's 16 years and counting. Even Saban couldn't get it done during his dynasty years when they were consistently ranked top 3 almost every week.

Repeat national champ is easier and it has been done FWIW.

It's not easier to win a national title than a SEC championship.

It goes to show you the strength of the SEC top to bottom.

Alabama has gone 7-1 in the SEC West, a mark that has historically been a near lock to win the division, but that was only good enough to win the division 1 time.

Yeah, I can't believe it hasn't been done again since then. I think auburn has a good shot this year though. But hell, I thought the same thing about bama last year

2011: Bama doesn't win SEC, wins NC
2008: Florida loses to Ole Miss, dominates Oklahoma in BCS title game
2007: LSU loses two SEC games, crushes Ohio State in BCS title game
2006: Florida loses to Auburn, crushes Ohio State in BCS title game
2003: LSU loses to Florida, completely shuts down Oklahoma's offense in BCS title game

In the 7 straight BCS titles the SEC won, 4 of those teams had 1 or more losses in the regular season. Outside the SEC, no BCS winning team and only 2 BCS title game participants entered the game with any losses. In this era of football, I think it's much more difficult to get through the SEC than it is to win the national title.

They barely beat Auburn. Manning had to do some work on that last drive. Jamal Lewis was a beast.
