1. You're an idiot

2. It's if he gets hurt. When he graduates, TAMU can give him any money he deserves since he will be no longer connected to the University as a student-athlete.

Asked if he sees a scenario where blue-chip recruits might seek schools to pay their insurance as part of their recruitment, Barnes conceded, “Could that become a part of recruiting? Hypothetically, yes it could.”

I think that was a very stupid move to make by A&M. Are they gonna do it for every player thinking of declaring early?

Every kid that has a certain draft grade is probably awarded one of these for coming back.

Looks like we are finding our own loopholes in the system. Good for us.

Some of y'all are really behind on this it seems. Players have been doing this since Willis McGahee's knee injury.

There is no malicious intent behind this or any competitive advantage gained.

Sure players have been getting policies, but have the universities been paying $50k for the premium out of the student assistance fund?

I wonder if they offered to buy JFF a policy. I shudder to think about that premium

Pretty sure they have been. I just remember a lot of talk about this when Nerlens Noel tore his ACL at Kentucky.

The premium was quoted as being the deed to South Padre Island.

All I'll say is that before he declared we were only gonna drop $300 million on the stadium renovation.

Manziel said that his family and the university are handling the process of securing the policy. Student-athletes are able to acquire coverage through the NCAA's "Exceptional Student-Athlete Disability Insurance Program," which was established in 1990 and can provide up to $5 million in coverage, Khan notes.
