A serious question:

for the schools that have both huge football program and intense engineering programs, do y'all know of any scholarship athletes that have actually played football that are also engineering majors? I am just curious because you hear HS guys say all the time they are interested in being engineers. However, once the actual engineering workload gets laid out, I am curious if it is at all compatible to the time commitment now expected of major football programs.

One of my buddies did golf and mechanical engineering...not nearly as demanding as football but still had 6 am workouts And missed a ton of class

Our QB Josh Dobbs is majoring in Aerospace engineering and killing it. Just got voted 1 of the 14 smartest players in America. Obviously it's possible, but I don't think I could handle the work from both.

I would imagine he's the exception, not the rule.

I think Dontarrious thomas got his computer engineering masters after his MIS degree. I may be mistaken.

Ryan Tannehill was biomechanical engineering I think. Or maybe just pre-med or something. Can't remember.

Hand was really interested in majoring in civil engineering I think. Not sure if he actually decided to though.

My freshman year there was a football player in my intro to engineering class, but he was a walk on. i don't even remember his name.

State's had a few, but nobody worth mentioning.

One of the unique things that MSU used to do was that players would wear the patch representing their respective department/college.

For example:

That patch is the College of Arts and Sciences

That patch is the College of Education. We had a lot of Physical Education majors like most college football teams.

The great Wayne Madkin was an Agricultural Business major.

One of our DTs, Curtis Virges, is/was a ChemE. I had a few classes with him. I'm not sure if he's still with it or changed majors, though.

I asked a coworker that played for Arkansas about this and he said they had one or two guys in engineering. I think it's obvious they would have to be an exceptional student to begin with to pull it off.

I like that patch idea. I wish they would do it more often. At least a sticker on the helmet.

While in school I knew a few finance majors on the football team. I remember Brodie Croyle being a computer engineering major, not sure if he finished with that tho.

Well, for all that are doing, they deserve a hearty round of applause. It doesn't just take a good mind and body; it takes a incredible self-discipline to manage your time and have so little completely off time. Kudos to them all.
