The Big Dam Bridge across the Arkansas river, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, opened in 2006. At .8 miles in length, it is the longest bridge in North America built for pedestrian and bicycle use only.

I used to live pretty close to it... It's actually in a decent area(Cammick Village?). Decent place to work out but I preferred to just make the trip up to pinnacle and hike it.

Yes we are, just saw this come across Twitter

These Are The 10 Most Dangerous Mid-Sized Cities In America

1. Little Rock, AR
2. Flint, MI
3. Jackson, MS
4. Dayton, OH
5. Springfield, MO
6. Knoxville, TN
7. New Haven, CT
8. Lawton, OK
9. Richmond, CA
9. West Palm Beach, FL

LINK

Using the FBI report, we obtained the number of crimes committed in each place across seven categories in 2012:
•Murders
•Rapes
•Robberies
•Assaults
•Burglaries
•Thefts
•Vehicle Thefts

#1 Little Rock, Ar

While the capital of Arkansas has received its share of accolades in recent years, including a nod from Forbes in 2011 as the second cleanest city in the country, Little Rock’s crime rate was all we looked at for this ranking. Overall, it was bad enough to warrant the city’s naming as our most dangerous mid-sized city we studied.

Little Rock ranked second overall in terms of total crime, with 9,378 crimes per 100,000 in 2012. The chance of being a victim of one of those crimes stood at 1 in 21. The city’s rank for property crime was only slightly better at third, with 8,062 per 100,000 (1 in 24 odds) during the same period.

It was also ranked third for murder, with 23 per 100,000 and odds of 1 in 8,524. For violent crime, Little Rock placed fifth overall. There were 1,316 violent crimes per 100,000 people there in 2012, which translated to a 1 in 149 chance of being the victim of one.

Understatement of the century. There was a major wreck a few months ago on 630, leaving traffic at a standstill. I had to cut through the ghetto so I could get to 167 and it was depressing. I knew it was bad down there, but holy shite.

The last time I saw any type of violence was when a couple of drunk guys from Fayetteville popped off to the wrong guy on the golf course (Ar/OM game. Needless to say they both ended up taking a 20 second nap.

Completion of Razorback Greenway coming soon

quote:

Once Lowell and Springdale complete the final sections, the trail will connect Northwest Arkansas from Lake Bella Vista to South Fayetteville at Walker Park.

"In 2010 we had just a very few number of trails on the ground," Murphy says. "By the end of the year, we're going to have about 100 miles of paved trails and about 200 miles of soft surface trails in Benton and Washington counties."

Sorry, LR/NLR. Still a ways to go to catch God's Country

The Arkansas River Trail System is a tribute to outdoor recreation, conservation, wellness and the diverse geographies of Central Arkansas that creates an expansive 88-mile loop through the Natural State, including Little Rock, North Little Rock, Maumelle and Conway. A loop from the Clinton Presidential Bridge via NLR to the Big Dam Bridge and back to the Clinton Bridge via LR is 15.6 miles.

This award-winning community effort winds its way across the entire metropolitan area, through Little Rock and North Little Rock, connecting 38 parks, six museums and 5,000+ acres of federal, state and local parkland. Thousands of hikers, cyclists, skaters, joggers and other outdoor recreation enthusiasts flock to the trail to explore its diversity of habitats, landscapes and activities. Expansive and of primarily flat-terrain, the trail offers recreational opportunities for people of all ages, fitness levels, interests and health conditions.

When completed, the Arkansas River Trail will reach from downtown Little Rock to Pinnacle Mountain State Park on the southern shore, and from downtown North Little Rock to Cook's Landing on the northern shore. A fourteen (14)-mile loop will be created by a pedestrian bridge across Murray Lock and Dam and a renovated railroad bridge near the Presidential Library Center and Park. All together this project will offer approximately twenty-four (24) miles of trail in Central Arkansas. This trail will also connect to the 225-mile Ouachita Wilderness Trail in Pinnacle Mountain State Park adding an additional seventeen (17) miles to this nationally recognized trail.

That's just 2 of them. Not going to add up all of the trails in NLR and LR.

You lose again.

Fayetteville is a Bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community.

Little Rock and North Little Rock are not so bicycle friendly

Central Ark noticeably absent on 2014 Bike Friendly List

Razorback Regional Greenway

Soon everyone in NWA will have the ability to ride or walk between each major town and also be connected to a certified bicycle friendly community (Fayetteville).

It's sad that Central Arkers can't enjoy that.

It's neat. I rode in the bicycle race last year and plan to do it again this year.

Used to fish there on the North side prior to the bridge going up and I heard it pretty much ruined the fishing but maybe the fishing has returned. There was a while when you couldn't fish with the stuff going on. Don't know if it is as good as it was. But overall it is a good recreational area and I also like the one West of there on the other side of 430 (Two Rivers Park). LINKThey've done a lot with that area recently and it is a good place to bike, etc.

FWIW I went to Minneapolis last year and did some bicycling. It is tops in the US. LINK
