Why should we? I feel bad that this kind of stuff happens, but perhaps it's the wake up call they needed?
In Mexico, they have autodefensa (self-defense) organizations where communities purchased weapons and now protect their own villages without the aid of the government. No one gives a shite about Oaxaca, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa -- list goes on and on.
The people there don't expect you to, either, and have decided that it's high time to do what's needed.
Hopefully Nigeria follows suit.

Such a peaceful bunch. In Aceh Indonesia eight men gang raped a woman that was accused of adultery,and she still has a caning coming to her.Nothing done to the man to my knowledge. Where is NOW on this issue?
Where is the media outrage?
Gays and women bitch about how they are treated in the US,but in reality they should be grateful that they are here. In Muslim countries women might as well be cattle. And a man won't last very long if he tells his friendly local Imam he is a homosexual. Vladimir Putin doesn't think much of gays either and he could give a damn about anyone else's opinion on the subject. The Chinese don't love them either. And back in Nazi Germany they marched Gays into the death camps.
They should STFU and be glad they are Americans.

There's a strange infatuation with the media and Africa, even the other aid organizations. It is a terrible place, but the obsession can't be denied.

i can actually say I have lost some sleep over it.
the other night we were camping and I couldn't sleep and i was thinking about the BS we get all up in arms over here over minute crap(Sterling, Bengazi, Michael Sam) and there are really terrible atrocities going on elsewhere.
I understand out of sight, out of mind, but I wish that sometimes people had perspective and thought "man it sucks that Mr./Mrs. Smith is such a bigot/homophobe/jerk/whatever, but i'm glad i live in a country where the most radical amongst us don't get to kill/silence dissenting viewpoints"
