Looking for a church to visit and hopefully attend. I am Methodist so I'm also open to Presbyterian and Episcopal churches. No Baptist. I'm a single young professional adult in my late 20's, so looking a church that has a good sunday school class and/or young adult service.

How is Canterubry Methodist?

Thanks!

Check out Church of the Highlands. I've visited there with some friends and they seem to be doing it right. My advice would be attend the original campus off grants mill instead of the many satellite campuses around town. I only say that bc you watch the preacher on the screen there but that's just my .2

I don't think they have "churches" in Carcosa, friend.

Friends dragged us to Church of the Highlands, and we did not like it. Different strokes, but it's just too big. If you're into the big mega-churches it seems to be the most popular in town. Church of Brook Hills being the other big one.

Know a few people that go to Trinity Methodist(it's actually United Methodist, but I don't know the difference) on Oxmoor in Homewood and they all love it. All Saints is a right near there for an Episcopal church. Wife and I go there on occasion.

Dude.....

When they have to direct traffic off the interstate to get to your church and your "pastor" is a millionaire, you might be at the wrong place. Church of the Highlands..... Yikes.

Canterbury is nice, but you might be outa place if you're not a Brookie. Cathedral Church of the Advent is a nice, formal, episcopal church downtown. St Stephen's episcopal in Cahaba Heights is a mid sized church that's informal.

Hell, the 19th St Baptist church is cool.

Well yeah, I was trying to be nice. It was actually the most unpleasant church experience I've ever had, and I'll leave it at that.

Agreed.

We tried Vestavia Hills United Methodist too. If you weren't in the right social group, people would walk right passed you. Awful.

If the OP is a young upwardly mobile young professional with social climbing aspirations, Canterbury or the Advent are for you.

Haven't been before, but if private schools are in your kids' future, this would be a good choice.

PCA 4 life. I grew up in a Methodist church. I always thought the theology was kind of weak.

When I first moved to Birmingham, my roommate went to Briarwood and filled out a visitor's card. A few nights later I'm sitting on the couch in my boxers, drinking a beer, and watching the Cubs game when a group of people from the church showed up at the door. I told them he wasn't home and they started asking me about my faith and where I went to church and asked if they could come in to talk to me about the church. I told them I wasn't interested and to have a good night. Really pissed me off how pushy they were and I've had a bad image of Briarwood since, and this was 13 years ago.

That's some weak sauce compared to what they told my mother. She was thinking about enrolling me there in kindergarten cause she didn't like Inverness Elementary....long story short: they gave her a list of what I was and was not allowed to watch on TV at home.

Whoa, I have one at Inverness now, and one that finished up at Inverness last year and we love it. We actually just had a friend tell us she was moving their daughter to Briarwood and asked if we were interested. My wife had to cut me off before I went on a rant.

I know you're no longer a believer, but I know you have an understanding of the bible enough to know that most people on here have bad theology.

Did you answer the door in your boxers with the beer in hand? Because that would be awesome.
