Did you answer the door in your boxers with the beer in hand? Because that would be awesome.
most young people at Briarwood drink alcohol FWIW.

sorry that they were following the bible.
I get that, but when I told them I wasn't Presbyterian, I was happy in my Catholic(at the time) faith, and I wasn't interested in hearing about their church, you'd think they'd get the hint.

Whoa, I have one at Inverness now, and one that finished up at Inverness last year and we love it. We actually just had a friend tell us she was moving their daughter to Briarwood and asked if we were interested. My wife had to cut me off before I went on a rant.
This was in the late 80's, so Inverness is probably different now. Back then, it wasn't that great. We ended up getting annexed into Vestavia, so it was a moot point.
My mom and I were both raised in the Presbyterian Church, but she quickly learned the (huge) difference between PCA and PCUSA She still rants about that to this day.

I did have a beer in my hand, but I grabbed a pair of shorts to throw on. I immediately kicked myself for not allowing them in because there was a bowl sitting on the coffee table.

I know you're no longer a believer, but I know you have an understanding of the bible enough to know that most people on here have bad theology.
From my perspective it's kinda like watching two kids argue over whose imaginary friend is better at golf.
I'll agree that the Bible is pretty clear on some topics that many who claim christianity would argue against, but that's the nature of religious belief. Yes, the bible says gay sex is a sin. Why gay people try and reword the thing instead of just dropping the faith, I don't know. It is what it is.

you think people should walk away from trying to share the Gospel?

I guess not, but the catholics already know the gospel. They knew it 1800 years before the Presbyterians did

When people show up on my doorstep looking for someone else, and I tell them I ain't interested in hearing what they have to say, I do.

sorry for them following God's commands then.

The bible specifically says that even God turns away from people who continually reject him, so if you believe that why would you continue to pursue someone who says "No thanks"?

I too think, at a certain point, you move on. Jesus told the rich man to sell his possessions and give to the poor and to follow him. The man hung his head and walked away. Jesus did not go after him.
I take that, as you can discern how much you put into the effort to spread the Gospel. If it's rejected, it is then on that person who rejects it, come Judgement day. Your time can be better spent on those who would seek to hear God's word, rather than debate or argue with those who wish to be blind to it.

No one gets debated into the kingdom of God. Theology and scriptural discussions are fun and interesting, but the only question that matters is what does a person do with Jesus? If they reject Jesus, then all the homosexual arguments, evolution, abortion and everything else doesn't matter.

I'm Jewish, so I reject Jesus, but my religious ideals aren't all out the window (though they different drastically from just reading the Torah by its cover)

Sure, the discussions can be interesting. And the morality is/can be very similar. But they're academic discussions.

Canterbury is great. I have family in Mountain Brook who are members and my mom goes there when she's staying with them.

Of course! Judaism is a religion that encourages questions!
