The Loftin hire at Mizzou may be most brilliant hire in new bball coach search

Loftin's passionate about academics, but he has an equal passion for sports.

We sought him out to be the full package, to support both academics and sports. He realizes that strong competitive athletics make a crap ton of money for the university that in turn is used to support academics.

I imagine he's encouraging a homerun hire because he's always viewed Mizzou as a sleeping giant just ready to explode. He wants to be responsible for making Mizzou a national brand.

I believe he's influencing this coaching search quite a bit to make sure Mizzou makes a solid hire this time around.

Quite frankly I'm surprised that no one has considered that Loftin at Mizzou was the so called "homerun hire".

The guy makes things happen.

I have full confidence you will make a better hire than Tenn did thanks to Loftin. He is the boss.

Sure did. Set us up to get all that SEC money so we can go homerun next cycle.

I love Loftin but I doubt he gets very involved in a bball coaching search other than to be on board with swinging for the fences, that is unless Mizzou operates very differently than A&M.

Loftin is a boss though and if you like personality in a President and a guy that loves sports you won't find a better one.

I feel I've read this before.

It's like Deja Vu all over again.

Frankly, that's what's needed with Alden. I would think that Loftin and Alden had a conversation where Loftin said go get someone good. We'll support you 100% if you do that.

So he's looking for a coach that cares about both athletics and academics, hmmm?

Plenty of those are available every year after the latest round of firings.

He won't make the hire.
Your AD will.
Loftin isn't a micro-manager.

Loftin is primed to make what I would call a "BIG SPLASH" hire. This is actually perfect timing in the coaching carousel.

We have any option we want at this point now that everything has settled down. This is part of the brilliance of Loftin and why I think we will be #1 in academics in the SEC, and nation.

Do you have any evidence of ways he helped make homerun hires for other basketball programs?

Y'all would know about that.

The good news for Mizzou is CMA won't be available to hit us up for more money until next year.

Did he really give it his all or does Loftin just suck?

Loftin doesn't interfere.
He's a hands-off guy.
He entrusts those whom he hires (or those who answer to him) to make the decisions they were hired to make.
Right or wrong, that's just his leadership style.
