Kitchen drain has been draining slow since X-mas. Used cleaners/hot water etc. no luck. Only drain on this line, checked clean-out in basement, water backed up here so I know it's in line between clean-out & main line & not in p-trap etc. under the sink(which is draining rest of house fine)this line is about 35ft long to main line... Plumber comes out, quotes $275.00 to snake the drain pipe from clean-out(which I've already opened up & diagnosed the problem)...

Went to Home Depot this a.m. rented 50ft electric powered snake, 4hrs for $25... BITCH IS FIXED!!!

frick YOU RotoRooter...

As a builder the most expensive subs are your plumbers and they make the most of any sub!!! It is ridiculous

Plumbers are required on every phase of the build. Electricians are pretty much done at roughin.

Nothing really... a lil hair, a few strings, grease etc,... wasn't totally stopped up but I couldn't get it cleaned out & running free without the snake. FWIW... when I opened up the wall & opened the clean-out yesterday I wet-vac'ed the drain to get out as myuch water as I could & poured a gallon of muriatic acid down the line (it's all PVC) & it was still stopped up this a.m.. The snake did the trick tho & I poured a gallon of Zep drain cleaner in the clean-out before I buttoned it up...

Dishwasher running, faucet wide open... No probs...

The snake head or end of the snake. If grease then you need to start using enzymes. If clay then you will have to worry about a calapsed pipe. Measure the length of snake used to get to the clog, figure out where the pipe runs, if outside measure off the length and spot dig. Hell in some cases there could be feminine products/condoms at which time sit your wife down and train.

Mine stopped up last month. Tried to snake myself and the snake came apart at the handle and fell down the cleanout never to be seen again. Ended up having to get my septic tank pumped out.

Maybe for sub work on new construction, but not repair work. Nobody wants to play with turds for free.

I used that job as motivation to finish college. It really did pay well though. New construction doesn't pay as well as maintenance believe it or not.

BTW their prices are so high because the state and local governments are in their pockets with every job. State license fees, city/town license fees, state required insurance premiums, bond premiums, reeducation fees, and then there are permit fees for each and every job. That is all before you even get to the equipment costs, supply costs, labor costs etc. Talk about a head banger.

Yea, but other subs have to go through the same mess. HVAC requires local and state business liscenses and an EPA certificate. You can't just walk up and take the test without OJT and or a technical college degree.

Used one of these on a stopped up shower drain that a plumber quoted me $275 for.....and it worked like a CHARM. Used it later on a toilet clog, too. Same result.

Home Depot - $24

I used to be in the mortgage biz.

And guys who owned plumbing companies (not big brand name ones) were in 7 figure mountain ranches.

Big bucks upstream in that line of work.

This. My uncle and best friend from school both own small plumbing companies. They make more money than most people I know. Plumbers can charge whatever they want if they aren't doing new construction.
