LINK

I wouldn't be at all surprised if one or two of y'all are involved in this. As a current student, all I can say is thanks for supporting the program. I'd chip in too if it would make a difference for my last football season in Athens. If you can't be recognized publicly, may as well be anonymously on a message board.

Have to admit.....that was an AWESOME, coordinated response. I expected someone to point it out, but not quite this way. Well done, gentlemen.

The article you posted is like a week old, it's old news. Other posters decided to call you out on it.

When you see this, it is essentially a way of saying "old news"....as in the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor (Animal House, not really). Old news.

From another post on Tigerdroppings a while back:

quote:

A few years ago, instead of saying "this is old news", to be smartasses, people started posting a picture of an old newspaper... most commonly that of a newspaper declaring that Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. This evolved into saying the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor as a tribute to the scene from Animal House, which someone else just mentioned-- now it is simply shortened to "Germans!" without giving context.

Btw, that phrase did not start on tigerdroppings like some OT posters seem to think. That phrase has been around as long as message boards..I remember seeing it in the late 90s.

This is true. Most message boards seem to claim they started it

It is actually related to Godwin's law. In the early internet days, when people argued and it devolved to name calling then comparisons to Hitler or Nazis, Godwin's law was called. Since no one knew Godwin, someone, one day on the interweb, just said Germans.

At first Germans was just for a thread that was played out if even Godwin's law was not attained... Then, Germans also morphed into threads that were old news or repeated threads.

This has been your inter webs history for the day....
