There's a lot of heated debate on this topic on that board that shall not be named so I figured I'd bring it up here with the knowledgeable and reasonable folks.

People seem enamored of the 2005 Springdale team. I personally don't think it's even top 5 in the history of Arkansas football.

Teams I would rate ahead of them..

1925 and 1939 Pine Bluff - Won the High School National Title. The 1939 team won it on the field against Baton Rouge, 26-0.

1946 and 1957 Little Rock Central. Both of those teams won the high school national title as well.

Recent Teams I would take head to head against Springdale.

2003 Little Rock Central
1993 Pine Bluff
1990 Pine Bluff

My contention is that 2005 Springdale was perhaps the 2nd most grossly overrated high school football team in Arkansas history based on the Ronnie Floyd PR Machine. The most overrated was obviously the 2010 Shiloh team that was ranked nationally in the top 25 and got blown the frick out against Euless Trinity.

It is also my opinion that pretty much everyone backing the 2005 Springdale team as the best in Arkansas history is FROM Springdale or at least NWA.

Talent in Arkansas Football is considerably better in the south than in the north.. but coaching is better in the North and grades/schools are better in the North.

You want to bring up this debate on the day the Ultimate Warrior passed away, really?

Didn't the 2004 LR Central team beat the eff out of Springdale in the playoffs? Is that the team that broke Mustain's collarbone?

That Central squad that went back-to-back was legit.

96 Nashville

Check out these records, national.

30 yards from the next closest

178.5 Greg Washington AR (Nashville,) 1996 (2,321/13). Yards per game

25.8 Greg Washington AR (Nashville), 1996 (2,321/90) yards per catch

2321 Greg Washington AR (Nashville,) 1996
Yards in a season

He isn't anywhere on the list of having some super high game either. It was crazy. McBride to Washington.

Article from a few years ago that talks about some of these teams: HERE

But the greatest team of all time in Arkansas is the 1957 Central Tigers. It's the last year that Wilson Matthews coached the team. Matthews took over a "national championship" high school team (whatever that means) in 1947 and won that claim again in 1957. Central lost a game to North Little Rock in 1951 and Matthews would go on to not lose a game to another Arkansas team after that. He won 33-straight to end 1957.

They didn't have school the next year in Little Rock, so Matthews left and was a position coach at the flagship academic institution of Arkansas.

They were ridonkulous back then. I had a buddy who played at Clarendon back around that time and they even printed "WE BEAT BARTON" t-shirts one year.

We had to play them my senior year when their 2A conference refused to play them anymore. The AAA made them play a 3A schedule against our conference but it counted as a 2A record. Then when the playoffs came around the still played in the 2A playoffs. Anyways, we thought we would smoke them since they were a 2A school and we were 3A. Yeah it didn't quite work out that way. They throttled us 42-0.

If we are making a list of greatest teams ever for beating Farmington, the rant is going to need a new bigger server.

J/K sort of.

Should of had someone "help" him out in this, it was too long before Arkansas had a player play 4 years who turned out to be illiterate.

On the other hand, it may have been for the best, the idea of him extending the Jack Crowe era leaves me in a cold sweat and shaking.
