Charleston, known for southern institutions as the Battery, Citadel, "Open Air" Market, and literary classics like Charleston, The Lord's of Discipline, and South of Broad.

Savannah, known for a Catholic St Patrick's Day parade, a river walk area, MLK Blvd, and the literary classic Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the book highlights many other notable Savannah residents, most notably The Lady Chablis, a non-operative transgender woman and local drag queen and entertainer.

I view being "Southern" as an absolute state and not subject to gradation. You're either Southern or you're not.

Which brings me to my next point. Texas is NOT southern.

While they both serve fried chicken, Bojangles gives more variety. Chic-Fil-A is the nation's #1 selling chicken breast sandwich, but at bojangles you can eat all the other parts of the chicken, green beans, dirty rice, mac n' cheese, redbeans and rice and you can have your chicken prepared to your tastes (spicy or mild.)

I agree that Texas is not southern in the same capacity as the southeast. Texas is Texas, and there isn't another state quite like it. I don't think Dallas is at all southern, and just think of it and Houston as simply, Texas. The accent begins to change in eastern Texas, and many Houstonian's generally have no distinct accent. If anything, Texas natives have a blend of southern/midwestern, or a California brogue.

Just to play a devil's advocate I think Charleston has way more Yankees than Savannah. For at least six months a year Chucktown becomes the southernmost city in Ohio.

I always liked Savannah more because you could be a tourist without feeling like one. It's Charleston without the hordes of fat, pale, poorly dressed pushy Yankees.

But that said Savannah has SCAD while Charleston has CofC and the Citadel so there's that.

7. SC's 2nd biggest school is an AG school, GA's is for nerds who build Iron Man suits.
....the list is infinite.

Zaxby's > Bojangles > Chic Fil a

That's because Georgia's #1 school has an AG department.

South Carolina is the quintessential Southern state.

Also, y'all need to chill on the Bojo/Chick-fil-a argument, SC has both thankfully, so there doesn't need to be an argument. I prefer Bojo though.

South Carolina may be the most classically southern state in the SEC. Florida isn't southern per se, but the pan handle and northern portion of the state, Gainesville included, are as redneck as it gets.

Southern =/= Redneck.

Therefore,

1. South Carolina
2. Alabama
3. Mississippi
4. Georgia
5. Tennessee
6. Kentucky
7. Louisiana
8. Arkansas
9. Florida
10. Texas
11. Missouri

Just pointing out that if this was a white trash/redneck ranking, Gainesville would run away with first place.
