Dirk Nowitzki, knowing the Final Four was going to be a short drive down Interstate 30, was disappointed that the NBA scheduled the Mavericks for a road trip this weekend.

“They screwed us over,” Nowitzki said. “We’re basically out of town the whole weekend. That’s unfortunate. I looked at the schedule obviously knowing that the Final Four was going to be here. We for sure would have gone one day, the whole team probably, so that’s disappointing.”

As disappointing as that is, Nowitzki is excited that his Kentucky Wildcats will be coming to town.

Yes, Nowitzki claims Kentucky as his team despite never enrolling in a class or playing a minute of college basketball. That’s because he would have been a Wildcat if he hadn’t opted to declare for the 1998 NBA draft.

quote:

“It would have been a great time,” Nowitzki said. “They showed me around. I met some of the players. Scott Padgett was my host. I went to dinner with Tubby [Smith]. He was the coach back then. Holger wore his leather jacket to dinner, so everything was great.

“I visited in ’98, so they just won [a national title], so that would have been obviously a great program. But I decided to go straight pro and was lucky. You never know what’s going to happen. I think a year of college or two was going to be great, but the way it worked out here was awesome.”

Tracy McGrady, who went straight from high school to the NBA, has a rooting interest even though he never played college basketball.

“If I was going to go to college, I was going to go to Kentucky,” he said. “So that's the team I root for throughout this time of the season.”

There was an article from a Mav's blog awhile back about it too. He was pretty stoked when UK hired Cal.

Tubby loved him some Euro big men too.

LeBron was definitely not going to UK had he went to college, more likely Ohio State.

Holding court in the clubhouse with Dirk seated behind him, Barkley spun a yarn about the first time he played against the German star at an exhibition in Germany and the attempt he made to bribe the then-teenager.

"So I called Nike. I says, 'Find out about this kid. Tell him I'll give him anything he wants to go to Auburn.'"

Barkley insisted that "he would have did good at Auburn, and we would have took good care of him, too."

LeBron = basketball player
Ohio State = football school

Ohio State has 1 NC, and it was from the 60's before LeBron was born. Bob Knight played on that team yet he went to Indiana to coach even tho he was born and raised in Ohio.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but he was definitely going to Ohio State if he would have attended college.
