I'm looking for a new job and considering looking into a few of the staffing agencies around here. Anybody have any luck with them before?

The company you will be working for will pay them the full pay, the staffing company will take their cut, and you get the rest.

Have used them in the past to hire temp labor. Usually light office or light warehouse work. There are some like accounttemps, that cater to finance and accounting professionals. those do tend to lead to permanent jobs, but finance and accounting is reasonably generic because of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.

I went through a couple when I was unemployed a few years ago. I burned a lot of time with them and ended up only getting one or two temp assignments. I did much better using my personal contacts. To sum it up, they were a waste of time.

Like many things, it really depends on what you skillset is and what you are looking for. Different agencies specialize in different things and within every agency you have different levels of quality of recruiters. Same goes for temp/staffing agencies.

Some large companies utilize staffing agencies for a significant portion of their hires so they don't have to add permanent headcount and then they can choose to convert temp employees if they wish.
