Let's be honest. We suck at it and B10 and other conferences are way better all around then us. 2006 maybe when LSU and Florida made final 4? Kentucky has won it all but we didn't provide much competition to that and can't dickride them when we fizzle out before the sweet 16. This will be the 4th or 5th year where we send less than 4 or 5...for a major conference that's pathetic.

It's only been really bad since Anthony Grant's been in the conference. I'm not blaming the entire conference's struggles on him, but it started happening around that time.

The SEC sucks, but has more NCAA champions in the past decade than the current B1G10, PAC12, MWC, MVC, Big East and A10 combined.

I remember a time when we used to get 6+ teams in the dance. About 15 years ago, maybe some of Pearl's years.

I agree, though. When Bama was pretty good, the SEC was a bit more stout overall.

I don't think the conference was good but I know there was a season in which UF won the national title and we won the NIT, so that must have said something?

I would say early to mid 90's when Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU and Mississippi St all had very strong teams.

Typically the SEC in basketball is the ACC in football. There may be 1-2 really good teams but there's not really been any recent time when the conference had any depth of great teams.

In fairness to the SEC in basketball they've at least won a few more championships (Fla/KY) over the last decade than the ACC in football (FSU)

Which is hilarious when you consider how hard that conference is pimped.

I can at least say when the SEC has sent teams to the NCAA Tournament they typically do decent (when you consider expectations). I can't tell you how many times in the past decade the Big East sent 3/4 their conference to the tournament and majority flamed out real early.

The Big Ten has a lot of very good teams like Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin, but they don't have any real national contenders year in and year out like we have Florida and Kentucky. The Big Ten is far more competitive, but doesn't usually have a true contender, especially this year.

Around the late 90's, the SEC started focusing more effort to the Football side. When TN won the NC, basketball went away.

They have Michigan St., but I don't think they will win it this year.

Michigan St. has made it to the final four a lot recently.

Crap I forgot about them. They have the strongest name now that Indiana sucks. I think they're still a step below teams like Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas

I think that's just when Arkansas fans starting giving up on the sport because Nolan was getting near the end of his run.

You can kinda argue the SEC has been fairly consistent when it comes to producing Championship teams since expansion.

1994 - Arkansas
1996 - Kentucky
1998 - Kentucky
2005 - Florida
2006 - Florida
2011 - Kentucky

Two or three a decade. Not dominant but not bad either when there are at least five major basketball conferences.
