It's about fricking time. How they have one for basketball and not football is something I've never understood.

This will change a lot of things.

I think part of the reason for this, is because basketball is a spring sport in high school.

I've seen that argument, but it doesn't make any damn sense either.

Early signing period would be awesome.

This will actually slow recruiting down IMO. Not so many early takes unless they are complete studs.

Perhaps. But it will allow a staff to not have to worry about a kid flipping because he has been committed for so long and feels he is not getting attention because they are going after other kids that have yet to commit.

The ones you would worry about flipping wont be signing early.

But it'll give you a good idea of where the kids stand. If they're a long time commit and they don't sign early, that gives you a better idea of how they really feel about that school.
I think an early signing period would be great.

The problem comes when you have a guy who has been committed for 6 months and decides 2 weeks before signing day he "wants to look around" and all your other top targets at that position are gone because you had him locked in
Not sure I fully agree, as some kids decide late they want to look, after a school has gotten a couple more studs at the position

Not that I object to an early signing period for football, but some of the same people who cheer for it now will later be bemoaning the fact that some kid they really wanted signed early and locked them out. Think of the flurry of commits in January this year, some surprising, some not. With an early signing period, your favorite school might not have gotten them. So it's likely going to be a source of some angst for many of you.

Didn't want them anyway.

Yes you did. I saw the bedroom eyes y'all were making.

I don't really like this. Prospects should get every reasonable opportunity to pick the right school. A lot of things can change after the proposed early signing date that could alter how a recruit would have made a decision.
I don't really care if some college staffs and fans are inconvenienced by the whole thing.

I don't like it either. It pressures kids to make life altering decisions faster and more impulsively. High school seniors have a lot on their plates already without the added injustice of people caving in on them mentally about signing your intent and being done with it. Too much can happen with a football program during a season, and this recruit who already signed can't have second thoughts as a result.

It works in basketball. And reality is the best prospects likely won't sign until late anyway. Sounds good to me.

I am torn on this. On one hand teams wouldn't get burned by late flips. On the other hand Bama has benefitted from late flips as well. I know we probably wouldn't have Ashawn Robinson or many of the Aub-turned-Bama- commits with this rule in place.
The other thing that I don't like about it is that most head coaching changes often happen in December (if the team isn't bowl eligible.) It makes it difficult for the kid if he signed on in early November, but doesn't have a good relationship with the new coaching staff.
As frustrating as it is to be an observer, I'd rather have the kids take as much time as needed to make their decision. But ask me again how I feel the next time we have a last minute flip
