I'm as big a KM fan as there is. I like his story first of all and I also think he might legitimately be our best player on offense.

I'm thrilled to hear our weaknesses in the secondary have been addressed.

How do you know he'd be better at safety than Coley, Coleman and Liddell?

How do you know he's not the best player at every position he isn't playing?

That's not really the concern. We've already got 2 well established SEC rb's. Two. And numerous others that are capable of grinding out carries. We don't have any stand out safeties, really. Definitely no one with Marshall's size and speed. AND he evidently has a desire/willingness to play safety.

I'm positive Marshall is going to be an awesome RB for us. I just wish we wouldn't move him from a position of weakness to a position of strength.

I prefer marshall at RB, he's got the athleticism for safety but there is a lot more to that than there is running back as far as a learning curve goes especially when he's been a RB before.

I really wish we'd land a top flight DB instead of trying to develop "athletes" into defensive positions. and i'm sure people in hell want ice water. I don't think either of us are going to see what we want to see.

Don't we have time for him overcome that learning curve? He can be a special teams force next year and backup safety.

He'd log more time there than he would at RB, IMO. He's got freakin' AC and JW ahead of him. There are finite carries. We suck on defense. We run the ball fantastically. Our OL is getting bigger and better. I just don't think the potential 1 or 2 homerun TD's that he might garner are worth the wasted opportunity of having him be a fulltime player at a position of absolute crap.

I'm just going to take this as a good sign. I couldn't imagine they'd have the confidence to move him if they weren't feeling very good about the current stock of safeties.

There is a good chance that JWill goes pro after this season. That would give Marshall two years of being in the main rotation.

Bert's teams at Wisconsin used 3 backs when they had three good backs as well...

To me, it's not so much an issue of getting three absolute studs at RB. You don't need that. It's nice to have, but it doesn't seem necessary to me when our defense is so pathetic and we've got AC, Evans, JWill, and Kody.

Are Evans and Kody lost causes (realizing Kody might be a FB next year)? We still have Juan Day coming in and will likely add 2 RB's in 2015. I'm guessing one of those will be a clear cut stud.

I realize that we have a lot of safeties as well, I just wish we had someone that stood out like Marshall athletically.

Marshall has shown he can move the ball when it is in his hands.

He has not shown he can tackle or defend a pass.

Known commodity vs measurables and "it would be nice"...

Look at it this way. Last year he started out at safety. He never fought his way up the depth chart. If he was good, don't you think he would have? Especially given how bad we were. And he DID fight his way up the depth chart at RB.

I don't disagree totally, but Evans and Walker are largely unproven commodities, and Walker has done next to nothing since his injury-shortened 2011 season.

Given the fact that we're wholly reliant on our run game at present until Peavey comes along or Storey hits campus or our receiver corps breaks out and starts catching the fricking ball. However, if Day comes in and goes beast mode, I'd be more than happy with moving Marshall to defense if the coaches feel he can contribute more than someone presently in the back seven.

^^^Mirrors my opinion.

I think our passing is going to be better than a lot of people think.. but.. look at it this way.

Williams and Collins are essentially the same kind of back.

Give each of them 40 touches a game, that's probably going to be 36 carries and 4 passes.

That's a pretty solid workload. It also still leaves another 25 to 30 plays a game and we're not going to pass it 30 times a game most likely. Also, what happens if someone gets hurt?

Marshall will get 5 to 10 touches per game outside of special teams and he'll be a real change of pace.

Difference I see between J Will and Collins is that J Will shows more of an ability to take it to the house on any given play. Collins, haven't really gotten that feeling with him - he'll get you yards, but haven't seen that breakaway yet.

Marshall looks like he will be even more of a threat to take it home than J Will.
