Could you see owning/marrying a robot instead of a human partner?

Time.com article about female android

The link is about a female shaped robot, but the question could go both ways: when androids become so complex that they can imitate human beings to the point of you not being able to notice a difference, could you see partnering with an android?

I assume they can be programmed to not be self-centered, egoist, insufferable bitches?

IF yes, then yes.

Only if the android makes me go to housewarming parties and other stupid bullshite with her stupid bullshite android friends where all they do is talk about stupid bullshite and then get mad at me when I drink too much and say something awesome or throw up on their cat.

I have a hard time believing the robots will be that advanced in my lifetime so no. I would also want kids which you can't have with Robots.

I've got a feeling that these androids would be used more as expensive sex toys than a real relationship partner. Those who could afford one can buy companionship from a real person, if that's what they're looking for. The prices would have to drop significantly before your average joe would consider owning one, and even then, they'd more than likely be completely selfish and self-involved to where they'd be better off with an android rather than potentially ruining the lives of real women whom they'd get involved with. Same for the male androids, I suppose.

That's not really what I'm getting at. Imitating a human being as in all of the typical responses a human would have, but perhaps slightly different. As in, you take your girlfriend to see terminator and she doesn't see it as a horror movie kind of response.

Could you actually love a robot, knowing that even though it seems to be alive to you, its not a human?

Anyone can "love" anything, including one of these things. Some take that love further than others.

To me, that sort of thing would always be a robot, no matter how realistic it was at imitating a human being.

After watching 'Her' (I'm actually listening to the soundtrack right now) I seriously had considerations of what it'd be like to have something that unconditionally supports you but in not so covert a way. I can definitely see it happening, and I can definitely see pregnancy being obsolete at one time or another if they can get the materials to create babies.

We won't even be the same animal in 25 years.
