Coach Muschamp's stance on HUNH proposal

Q: A proposed rule change that would force offenses to wait for 10 seconds to run off the play clock before snapping the ball has generated a lot of controversy. How would you vote on the potential rule change?
A: "My honest opinion is I think it's comical for everyone to come out either for it or against it and say this is what's best for college football. Because it's really not what's best for the game, but it's what's best for your interest. I did a study two years ago on when is the ball being snapped. On average each game, four to six plays on average were snapped before 30 seconds. So we're talking about four to six plays in a game. We're not talking about half the game. My point being, is what does it really change? I could care less about the rule. The only thing I will say is the administration of the game for the officials is very difficult.
"Example, an offensive team gets a first down. The ball is being snapped before they even set the chains for the next first down. Is that good for the game? I don't think so. Those things as far as administration for the officials is very difficult and my conversations with [SEC head of officials] Steve Shaw and some of the officials I'm friends with. It becomes very difficult for them to get their eyes where they're supposed to be and execute their jobs. I don't think that's good for the game. So would it be good to have a little slower tempo for the game without slowing down these teams? Sure. But whatever we compromise on, I'll be fine either way."

This is the only sane argument I've come across.

Not sure anyone should be taking opinions about offensive football from Will Muschamp.

i call it "hurry up and cheat" offense. defense get penalized much more than offense.

At least Boom knows what it feels like to beat an SEC team as an SEC coach.

Beat me to it. But he does makes sense in what he says here.

Muschamp likes this proposal because it puts us one step closer to banning offense altogether.

In this day and age, why are we still using two sticks and a chain to keep track of 10 yard increments?

Doesn't your new OC run an up-tempo type offense?

Why are you head banging, Phat Phil?
You post far worse on a routine basis.

His real answer sounds incredibly similar to what I wrote a while back in another HUNH thread:
quote:
When asked his thoughts on the proposed rule change, Coach Will Muschamp said he thought having an offensive strategy at all was an unfair advantage against defenses but added that he didn't get why other coaches were so upset about any particular offensive style. "Offenses? I've had my guys run several of them. Had all kinds of different offensive wizards come in trying to work their magic for the team and I gotta tell ya I just don't see any differences. As far as I'm concerned even having an offense is a gimmick but the rules say you gotta do something when the ball's in your possession."

UF fans have no idea what to expect of the new OC yet. They told a few recruits last year they would run some hunh. All UF fans know is it will be a variation of the Spread.

Finally someone with some sense. All this melting down on here for something that the average fan will never even notice during the course of a game.

I agree you'd think we would be a little farther along technology wise.

^What I find funny about that is his claim that *he* did a study not that he read a study but that he actually did one.

I find it funny that he says no one should be speaking out for it or against it. Then provides an opinion for the rule....
