Bauta was the guy in the headphones on the sideline when Mason went in vs Kentucky and also for the GT game I believe.
With another Spring and Summer of scrimmages between now and then, who the hell knows, I'm not even convinced Mason will start.

Then we will suck as a team.

at the bowl game i noticed BR had the head phones on too...and was sending in calls...from what I hear from people down here where he is from, he is progressing nicely...especially with S&C.....he was kinda scrawny while at CCHS...I seent him at Christmas....and he has bulked up...

After watching his only 2 games I am not convinced either. He really only looks to dump the ball off and has a tendency to lock on to recievers or take off running. I hope Bauta or Ramsey steps up if he struggles.

Exactly what Murray did his first year starting.
For Mason's sake, let's hope they can break him of the habit now that Bobo has film to show him, of himself fricking up and consequences of staring down receivers and not having pocket awareness.
For Clemson and SC to open the season, we won't have to wait 4 or 5 games into the season to figure out whether or not he's progressed on the finer points of quarterbacking.

quote:I think it'll depend on how he & Bauta play in spring & fall practice. I don't think Richt will ride Mason like he did Cox in '09, I think FB or Brice gets an early shot if HM is frickin' up. All we had was Grey at b/u in '09 & no one really knew how hurt Murray was as a RSFr. until '10..
will Brice get a shot?

why?...
Becuase our O-line play never seems to be good enough to support a run happy team like say "Bama". So, if QB play is crappy, and we can't run it every down, we will suck. Thats as basic as I can get concerning my opinion on the subject.

i hope you are correct...we are sooo much deeper now at the position than we were and I think they have recruited like they have because of the lessons they learned...remember when Joe T3 was our best option?... ...lets hope we never get like that again...
both Bauta and Ramsey could hold their own imho

One thing we tend to forget is that Mason has been in the system for, what, four years now? He knows it better than Murray did when he first started, did he not? And, it isn't like HM hasn't played any during those times or spent quality time with the first teamers...
Go back and watch Mason. Average at best and would make a better backup than starter. FB doesn't have it - so BR better be ready to go.

But Mason has only got one more season left. If he's no better off than Murray was during his first season, I'd rather we just start over with one of our comparable QB prospects and give him a shot to grow up, like we did with Murray. With 4 years in our system, I'm hoping Mason will do much, much better than Murray did when he started. If not, then I'd consider it a wasted season at QB.

The thing about Bauta is that I just have a gut feeling he'll be wanting to transfer before the season starts. He'll wrap up this acedemic year and in May, he'll go somewhere else. I don't blame him either.
Had Park not been an early enrollee, Bauta might stay. But now with two talented pro-style backs competing with you just to be Mason's backup, that's just not a winning proposition for Bauta.

Had any of the receivers caught a ball in the bowl game you'd be singing a different tune. Mason was fine in the bowl game, the receivers took a dump on the field.

For the first 3 quarters Mason was rattled and look pretty bad himself but it was his WRs/Lynch who let him down in the end. I think he looked fine in the GT game.
IMO even if he struggles early yall are gonna be bummed cause Richt won't just yank him. I think he at minimum gets half the season if he struggles. I also think he will win the spring and then they'll all battle from there.
It's my hope the OL for once steps up, loses some weight, and mans the hell up so they can be a run-first offense. IMO it'd make a huge difference because Mason throwing it 35+ times like he did the last 2 games is just not a smart game plan.

What would possibly lead you to that conclusion? Not talking crap, just honestly wondering. Ramsey has never taken a collegiate snap, and Bauta has run like 3 plays in a blowout.
We have literally zero idea how either would handle themselves, and history would indicate it wouldnt' be all that great considering both of their situations.

no, no he wasn't...as has been stated, the Oline and Receivers didnt help much but I was there...he looked lost...

I think he would have to melt down pretty hard to get the boot for Ramsey (or Bauta, or whoever). He stuck around to get his shot and Bobo/Richt will give him every opportunity to take it.
