After losing to Oklahoma/Big 12 in football, they have decided to compete in the Big 12 in women's rowing. Big 12 Team

How many other SEC teams even have rowing? I know Tennessee does. Many other SEC teams have bodies of water nearby so that most of them should be doing it.

Construction began in the fall of 2013 on the state-of-the-art boathouse on the west side of Manderson Landing. The 11,163-square-foot facility includes storage space for the team’s equipment and will be coupled with brand-new facilities at the Presidential Village, housed within the University’s new student center. The Presidential Village, which overlooks the Black Warrior River, will have new locker rooms, a student-athlete lounge, athletic training facilities, coaches offices and an ergometer suite that overlooks the Black Warrior River. Both facilities are slated to open in the fall of 2014.

From the article, they're gone to Big12, too. It surprised me to hear anybody in this region had a rowing team, men's or women's. SEC Rant is improving my education!

Yeah, we're fricking surrounded by water - and bodies.
But what's this "rowing" shite you're talking about...?

The main reason it surprises me is I just can't imagine it being popular in this region. Outside of Tennessee, Arkansas, possibly Kentucky and north Georgia, there just are many rivers I'd ever want to share with the gators, water moccasins, etc. And the water isn't exactly inviting, either.

There aren't any alligators in Tuscaloosa
(there have been unconfirmed sightings, but it's not a habitat)

More schools should have it.... hell, it's the only program on capmus not named football or basketball... that makes a PROFIT. Plus it's like 20+ girl schollies towards Title IX.

2007 National Championships were held in Oak Ridge, TN (about 20 miles from Knoxville).
1998 and 2001 National Championships were in Gainesville, GA (about 40 miles from Athens)
2018 National Championships are scheduled for Sarasota, FL

Missouri couldn't compete in either conference and never could beat either program.
Face it, Missouri sucks and the people are nasty in this shithole state.

Wow. That's unbelievable. I'd have loved to have been in the meeting where the rowing coach insisted on a new facility that would pay for itself in only... well, never. And yeah, I know a lot of sports lose money. But that building is crazy.
