How Many Titles Could We "Claim"

With the Auburn coming out considering claiming old titles like Bama, it got me wondering. How many could we claim? I've never done the research but I think this sounds like something right up WG's alley.

I think it's 5 that we can claim but might be wrong about that

5
Media Guide claims 5, so that's good enough for me.
If we want to use Barner logic we might be able to claim 2007

FWIW '46 we were the only undefeated team left but lost the votes to Army and Notre Dame

This coming from the school that claims nothing but shared titles

Sorry just now seeing this. 27 46 and 68 are the only others.
On phone so can't get more in depth but one year OSU claims it bc they won the ap. one year we only won a mathematical poll.

We just need to open up a can of JUNKYARD on the SEC next year and win the 4+1 stupid thing.
Then we can invalidate all the prior trophy's and claim the ONLY Natty in existence.
But yes this shows Auburn is pea green with envy and little brother like when Alabama comes into the conversation.

Ok, I am JUST now getting to a computer so I can finally give this the credit it deserves. 42 and 80 are the 'consensus' titles that the school claims. Some media outlets only give us credit for 80 since in way back in the olden days the AP was all that mattered, and Ohio State won the AP in 42. However, they went 9-1 while we went 11-1, plus we finished #1 in more polls than they did, hence the consensus. So those are the 2 mainstays.
Now..if we wanted to get into bammer math, there are 3 other years we could claim if we wanted to.
1927- We were #1 and undefeated going into the final week but lost to tech. There were still 2 "recognized" polls that awarded us the title though. [this brings up an interesting note, as some further research indicates there are more years that some outlet voted us #1, but they aren't "recognized". So I guess in theory, these other 3 years do have at least SOME small bit of legitimacy, although I can't tell you how or why they were recognized and others weren't.]
1946- We went 11-0 and won the Sugar Bowl while ND went 10-0-1. The times being what they were..obviously the media didn't favor southern teams too much. We only were #1 in one recognized poll, while ND was the champ in most of the others.
1968- This is the biggest LOL, which I fully admit is bullshite, but other teams claim similar titles. We went 8-0-2 in the regular season and went to the sugar bowl, then lost to arkansas. Ohio State went 10-0 and was the consensus champ, but the Litkenhous poll still voted us #1. Here is a small snippet (apparently he did basketball too) about his formula. So this one is definitely a stretch, but I mean one of the most famous bear bryant quotes is "if a laundromat in tuscaloosa wants to pick alabama #1, we'll claim it". So, 1968 has just as much right as 1980 in gump logic.

I claim 1920, 1942, 1946, 1980, 2002, and 2007.
The national championship in college football has always been an opinion. In my opinion, the Georgia Bulldogs had the best team in the nation those years.
Next year, will be the first year in the history of the game, that the National Championship will be a fact, rather than an opinion.
