Jacob Coker transferring to Alabama

On Saturday, Alabama lost a future quarterback commitment.

On Sunday, the Crimson Tide picked up one who can contribute right away.

Jacob Coker was released from his scholarship at Florida State earlier this week and has committed to play at Alabama, according to BamaOnline.com. The move was widely expected.

Coker also met with Lane Kiffin, with the website writing that the redshirt sophomore was “very impressed” with the new UA offensive coordinator. In a sign of his level of commitment to and comfortability with the Tide, Coker stated that he will take no additional visits to other schools.

Weren't you the one claiming there was no way he'd come to Bama?

He will probably call a breach of contract on that statement.

I think he will do well there, because Bama QBs aren't generally asked to do a whole lot. But the Bammers who think he's gonna be Cam Newton West are mistaken.

Wisdom from TheOceanBetWelsher-

quote:

Doubt he transfers. He will be a guaranteed starter after Winston leaves and there is nothing the FSU side has heard that indicate he plans on transferring.

quote:

You're also assuming Winston stays healthy for the entire year. Coker could also get a ton of PT if FSU continues to roll opponents next year.

quote:

Bucc, let's go for a 2 for 1. MH to FSU, you and capstone are gone for good. Because, well, your sources are so fricking good.

Did Ricky Town decommit due to the ransfer of Jacob Coker to Bama? If so, doesn't seem like a good trade, 5 star for a 3 star? Was Town leaving anyway? Was kind of surprised that a California kid would want to come to Alabama.

Town de-commited because Nussmeier was gone and USC had a new, flashy staff. USC was Town's dream school.

town was gone as soon as nuss left and the usc situation stabilized. he was coming to bama because he loved nuss. also, coker only has 2 years of eligibility only and would have been gone by the time town ever had the chance to see the field. coker has nothing to do with town

From some reports sounds like Coker has the tools to be a good QB. Will be interesting to watch.

Town has already committed to USC. USC was his dream school and it's just 1 hour and 15 minutes away from home.
