This upcoming season starts the playoffs which begins with 4 teams. Would like to hear others thoughts on where we end up. Do any of you think it will be formatted like the FCS? I've seen some scenarios that had every conference champion entering the playoffs along with several that included FCS teams. We all know eventually it will expand from 4 teams, but where would the nuber of teams be satisfied to get a system that would end the debate.

There's a committee that chooses the 4 teams.

Eight would be enough.

Happy days forever more.

Until it jumps the shark.

I'm hoping the 5 power conferences break off and then we set up a playoff that's like this:

5 conference champions
3 at large berths

Then I'll be satisfied with the format

The debate will never end. It's part of the entertainment.

4 is enough. It is like baseball used to be. You win you conference and go undefeated and you are in.

i know there is no limit to how many teams from one conference can are allowed in the playoffs, but do you think next year the selection committee would allow two from the same conference in? i think there will be some unwritten rule of you dont get in if you dont win your conference.

Basketball now has 68 teams, 4 play-in games

I would like 16 teams, but any increase over 4 is an improvement, just as 4 is better than 2. With 4 teams, I think there will never - or almost never - be 2 teams from the same conference. If they used the BCS formula, the SEC would get 2 in often. But with subjective picking by the Dirty 13, they won't let it happen - gotta spread the wealth!

4 is ok. See how it goes. 8 is absolute max eventually.

I like an 8 team playoff. It gets the winner of the 5 conferences in there and gives room for 3 At Large really good teams. I don't like the 4 team playoff right now, there are almost always more teams who have a case to have a shot than the 4 who will get in.

What happens when a conference champ isn't undefeated? What happens if you have 5 undefeated conference champ? What happens when a one loss SEC team is left out in favor of a 4 loss big ten champ?

8 teams, there would still be some rumblings, but that would be solid.

I think I would make a small modification to this.

8 Team playoffs

5 Conference Champions
2/3 Wildcard spots
1 Wildcard spot will have the old BCS non AQ rule.

quote:

A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or

B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.

Something along those lines for non Bcs schools and independents. I think UCF proved it belonged in the playoffs this year by beating Baylor.

I would support eight only if the higher seeds get gone field until the title game.
