Hmmm. I don't think he's smirking with them. He's smirking at them. While he takes their recruits and all of their decent coaches.
And Vandy falls all over themselves thanking him for it.

Of course. RT @ESPN_BigTen: RT @tnsports: James Franklin ad thanking #Vandy fans was paid for by Penn State. LINK

Given how he's poached their recruiting class (not just the normal recruit here and there that coaches will take when they switch jobs -- Vandy's class is pretty wrecked right now) and how he's defended his actions by saying things like "they pledged to me not Vanderbilt," I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say it's classy.
CJF has done Vandy wrong in a lot of ways, imo.

Wow...Penn State has to take potshots at Vandy? What a classy move...

See "Sumner-Gardner, Dylan" for another example of that happening.

That ad just comes of as extremely insincere. I'm no PR professional, but I just don't think that was the best way to "thank" a fan base. In fact, it does the exact opposite and rubs me the wrong way.
"It was a wonderful experience"???? WTF...why didn't he just say "Thanks for the money"
How about "It was an honor to be your coach". That sounds 100X better.
And what a dumbass move to have it paid by Penn State. Guy just signed a $27 million deal and couldn't come up with a couple thousand to pay for it himself.
No problem with him leaving for Penn State...but this was a fail on his part.

Agreed. He has single handedly fricked their recruiting class beyond belief. I feel bad for their fans.

Can't believe I'm about to say this... but he's managed to make Kiffin look like an amateur when it comes to doing a school dirty right before signing day. And yeah, I do feel for their fans. It absolutely sucks. It's one thing to lose or suffer mismanagement from the uni or AD but quite another to have a former coach who doesn't mind absolutely destroying your team so long as he gets his.

I don't care, Franklin is still scum.

its fricking vanderbilt. what kind of classes were they pulling in before franklin? Can a coach break what he is solely responsible for?

Google brought up A&M and Boise but was sparse on details. What happened with that one?

Eh, even if Vandy fans get pissed, only a hand full of people are pissed in Tennessee. Most of the orange nation is at least secretly happy he's gone.
