Today is ridiculously slow at work, and we kinda don't have anything going on til the bowl game other than basketball so here's an offseason-ish type thread with a twist.

The All-Richt team thread has been done every few months, but let's put that team up against an All-Donnan team. Also, seeing as how Richt has 8 more seasons worth of players to work with, let's just take Richt's first 5 years to make it even. So we're dealing with a window of 96-00, and 01-05. Standard formations. Players playing in both eras CAN COUNT for both teams. Also, I'm going from memory so Donnan's team will have a lot of holes.

Richt Team:

QB- Greene
RB- Musa
FB- Haynes
OT- J.Stinchcomb
OG- Jean-Gilles
C- Tanner
OG- ?
OT- George Foster
TE- Pope
WR- Terrence
WR- Reggie

DE- Pollack
DT- Sullivan
DT- Golston
DE- Moses
LB- Boss
LB- Thurman
LB- T.Taylor
CB- Oliver
CB- Minter
S- Davis
S- Jones

Donnan:

QB- Bobo
RB- Edwards
FB-
OT- M.Stinchcomb
OG-
C- C.Mcgill?
OG
OT- J.Jennings
TE- McMichael
WR- H.Ward
WR- Terrance

DE-
DT- Seymour
DT- Stroud
DE-
LB- G.Bright
LB- Witherspoon
LB- Hollingshed?
CB- Tim Wansley
CB- Champ
S- Bierra
S-

Obviously the donnan team was a lot harder to put together. I think the donnan defense would be stout and could somewhat limit the richt offense. However, I think the donnan offense would have a difficult time doing much against the richt D. If we're using the 97 Bobo I'm sure the donnan team could move some, the receivers are studs and Edwards was a beast. But the richt defense just has too much firepower.

Are there any players that could go both ways? Guys that played for Donnan and Richt? Terrence Edwards comes to mind

Terrence, McMichael, Musa, Boss (although obviously he didn't play as large a role under donnan), Reggie Brown

Excellent! Some of those are awesome choices.

I had Orantes on my mind but couldn't remember if he was a LB or DL.

Also, I originally put Corey Allen opposite Hines since he's a total stud, then was going to put Champ but didn't want him starting both ways, then settled on Terrence. Because let's be honest Terrence is the 2nd best WR we've ever had so I couldn't rightly leave him off.

All the rest are great though, I had a lot of trouble filling in gaps.

Unfortunately I will always remember him for the one he dropped.

No way you can put blue over Sean Jones, and I love greg blue.

Sean Jones instead of Greg Blue...blue was a hitter but Sean Jones was a much better S overall.

Will we look back negatively at DJ for the pick 6 in the same game? Or Pope for running the wrong route against UT? Or bennett for LSU?

Of course not. Everyone has a bad game, it's football. If it wasn't for AJ Green, TE8 would be the best receiver to ever play for Georgia.

I know Jones was better. But I like Greg Blue and its my list. Hahaha.

Sean Jones will always have a special place in my heart for the fumble recovery for 6 against UT.

And almost singlehandedly keeping in the AU game in 02. We don't win the SEC without his first half that game.

I remember the pick 6. And I hate it but when I think of TE8 I remember him on the ground in Attel Stadium. I cant help it I have tried not to remember it. I just cant. He had so many great catches in the Red n Black. And I just remember him for the one he dropped.

In the 1st half? He had a pick when they were on our 10 and had a fumble recovery and return around midfield.

In the 2nd half he had like 3 HUGE punt returns in a row that kept us alive. Maybe one of the most underrated performances in some time. Everyone talks about Greene to Johnson but we lose by 3 touchdowns if not for Jones.

Another play that gets lost in the shuffle is in the 3rd quarter when we were desperately trying to gather some momentum and they had us in a something and 20 on our own 2, when Musa broke off a long run to get the 1st down. I believe we scored on that drive as well.

I remember the INT but I cant bring the fumble recovery.

Wait, was Damien Gary hurt? I only remember him returning punts and Jones back there when we were in safe? I also drink so I could have killed these memories along with the bad ones.

Also Damien Gary might be my favorite punt returner in my lifetime. He is coaching at UNCC. I would welcome Damien back as SCC with open arms. (I know its a pipe dream).

Who was the TE that dropped JTIII's 1st pass in the '05 WLOCP? Wasn't that Pope? Wide open TE down the right sideline for a sure TD in the game DJ was hurt...

May as well add George Fosters PF for fricking that gator in the head on that FG. And the Pollack INT, handoff to Sean Jones for a td that called back. 0-13 on 3rd down, Rotating QB's when Greene was in a rhythm, etc.

You only remember the TE8 drop because of WHEN it happened in the game. The truth is that we beat the gators up and down the field that night and lost because we couldn't stop shooting ourselves in the foot. It was the whole team.
