This is the kind of data our admins look at and say: yep, we are doing just fine in spite of the lack of championships. If you took this same data and looked at ratings per investment in the associated athletic programs, we would likely be #1.

The only reason Auburn is one rank higher than us, because of all of the "Bama" switching to Auburn fans. It happens every time AU or Bama is winning or in the Natty. No other state switches teams like Alabama. It is really hilarious. You will actually see faded spots on cars where a Bama sticker was replaced by an Auburn sticker.

The best part, one of my business associates owns a chain of AU and Bama stores. He told me last season that he almost had to close down multiple Auburn stores when they sucked so bad and Bama one the Natty. He was literally selling 90% more Bama gear than Auburn. This year both team stores are BOOMING. Early in the season he said Auburn sales were up when they hired Malzhan (don't ask me why) but later season sales were 50/50. Now that Auburn is in the Natty, he is actually doing slightly better with Auburn gear.

Sorry for the rant, but I live in this state and see it first hand. Most fans root for the better team at the time and it's not even close. The only true fans are the ones whom actually went to AU or UA. They are happy to root for the best team in the state and not just one.

You never see a Dawg fan wearing Nerd gear, just because they are winning!!! Dawgs are always Dawgs, no matter if we suck or not! That's what is special about our fan base, even if most are content winning 8-10 games a year.
