Height / Weight:
6-5 / 230

Great Size!

2013 OUTLOOK:Strong-armed, mobile quarterback, who spent his second season with the Seminoles as the third-string quarterback but enters the fall as the lone signal caller to take any snaps in a collegiate game. Will be in a three-way battle for the starting spot vacated by EJ Manuel. Had another solid spring practice in 2013, showing good game management in scrimmages and the annual spring game where he completed 15-of-26 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown playing for both the Gold and Garnet teams. His athleticism from running a wing-T offense in high school and being an all-metro player as a forward in basketball gives him great ability to make plays on the run as well as moving around in the pocket.

I talked to a relative this weekend who is a member of FSU coaching staff and according to him Jacob Coker is transferring to UA and in his opinion it's a done deal. Said he doesn't even consider Coker FSU's backup QB because he's that certain that we get Coker. He also said that them losing Coker is a huge loss, said Coker is VERY GOOD and nearly beat Winston out. He said he believes Coker is better than AJ, even though I do not believe that.. Said Coker is not only a good thrower but is a very good runner as well and that he will start for UA next year.. All of this came directly from an FSU coach

Would he be able to play immediately (not sit a year)? If so, how?

Would he able to be at Alabama for spring practice?

He could play immediately because he's graduating.

ETA: latest reports are that he graduates in spring so wouldn't be at Bama til summer

He has already graduated so the rule does not apply.

Would he able to be at Alabama for spring practice?

I would say yes but I have no way to confirm.

Thanks, didn't realize he was that far along. Graduating now or after another semester (i.e. transferring now or after another semester)? If Alabama is relying on him for next year, sure would like to see him go through spring practice.

if he's graduated, he can transfer without pentaly to a school that has a grad program his current school does not have ...

if he does enroll, it would be the most important recruit of the year, obviously, assuming he's as good as advertised ...

So no spring ball at Bama.

He'd have to be pretty special to win the job in just a few weeks in the fall. Either that or Alabama is really lacking viable options at QB right now.

Hope it's the former, not the latter.

Two years with Coker.

You could RS DC, OR just let him take the garbage/backup snaps to get some experience. I'd let him play as the backup.

Two years with DC.

Redshirt Town.

Two years with Town.

We staaaaacked.

That's the biggest hangup, Bama will already have all this time invested into at least 2 QBs who start at A-Day.

He'd have to come on like gangbusters the minute he's on campus to win a job away from whomever in 7-8 weeks.

Good point. Hope so.

Alabama will be stacked at skill positions and should be pretty good on the oline so the opportunity will be there for the QB.

I do think the offense needs to do some self-scouting this offseason regardless of who gets the QB job. I don't think our passing offense is taking enough advantage of the skill at WR at Alabama right now. With the rules in college football getting more and more pro-offense, I think we may have to raise the agressiveness of the offense a couple of ticks. There are going to be more shootouts even with Alabama's defense.

I think his main competition is Bateman / Del rio. I don't have the confidence in Sims ability to be a full time starter. I think I'd take Cooker over those two guys if he gets the playbook down.

Yeah at the latest he will arrive in the summer. June, July, and August is a decent amount of time to get him ready. You'd think his learning curve wouldn't be as much as a ordinary new QB. Terminology and timing with the WRs will be his biggest hurdle, IMO. But it sure would be nice to get him in town for the spring.

I heard a rumor that FSU is holding up his graduation bc of some questions about a class he took. He thought he was done but now they say he has to take another class. Hell, I don't know how it is at FSU, but at bama you could always squeeze in mini-mesters
