Remember the abomination that used to be our kickoffs and coverage?

It's one of our most improved areas...maybe doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
2011...61st in the country, 2 TDs, 5 touchbacks, 21.68 YPR.
2012...66th in the country, 1 TD, 13 touchbacks, 21.57 YPR.
2013 to date...38th in the country. 0 TDs, 10 touchbacks. 19.76 YPR.
2011...average starting yardline if not a touchback...29 yard line
2013...average starting yardline if not a touchback...22 yard line.
Granted, players like LC are a big reason why, but Foster has certainly gotten a lot better.
I used to wish Foster could get a touchback more often. Even though there were a couple of long returns Saturday, this year I never want to see a touchback.

As Saban said his first year one of the most overlooked parts of recruiting/depth is getting good bench players for special teams. "Runners and Hitters" as he called them basically all non QB, Kickers, and Lineman.

Landon and Ragland get so hyped on kickoffs

Abomination is a hyperbole, but STs has improved.

The other interesting thing is that Saban hasn't hesitated to use offensive players on kickoff coverage. Trent, Drake, Hart, etc.

Perhaps, yeah, but 7 returns beyond their 40, another one inside our own 25, and two touchdowns in 2011 was pretty bad. This year it's been three between their 40 and 45, and that's it.

Dillion Lee seems to get off on covering kicks.

This year has been straight up dominant, no doubt.

Our kick coverage/40+ yard FG kicking was fricking horrible in 2011. It was that team's only real weakness.

We struggled a little against TN on kick off coverage but this yer they have been amazing.

Couldn't really take the top off of defense that year either. AJ overthrew a lot of deep balls that year. Granted Maze is a midget, but point stands.
If current AJ and this year's WR's with last year's OL and the 2011 defense were all together...
