We should keep our same front, bring some pressure and hope that this forces bad throws or at least our CB's can tackle WR's before the ACTUALLY MAKE THE CATCH.

Giving up 15 yards is better than giving up 50+ on 15 yard curls.

Press coverage killed us @ Rutgers. As with anything, need a good balance of coverages.

USCe coaches watching game tape to prepare for Arkansas Defense:
quote:

QB throw ball, WR catch ball - got it, let's go grab a bite to eat and drink some beers.

Can you tell I'm still a little pissed?

The problem is that they didn't tackle them before the ball got there. Seems to be our best defense for a prevent D

I was amazed at how comfortable we let their qb get. He is still a young qb and it seemed like we never tried to rattle him.

I don't remember much blitzing at all. The best defenses seem to blitz off the corner fairly often--do we just not have a talented enough secondary to pull it off?

Is this what we did sometimes under Bobby and the stache? It seems like we had lots of plays where balls were allowed to be caught and then tackles were made. I was always frustrated that the DBs were hanging too far off of the WRs.

Way off the WRs. There were plays their WRs just simply dropped easy catches without a DB within 10 yards. Multiple plays. We made them look All American - and Florida simply wasn't playing that great of football Offensively.

Anyway, not much the team can do about it now except learn, and move forward. I hope they do both.

bobby would also do that to well planned defenses as well. If the right play gets called against a zone defense you are going to look bad.

Just like well planned offenses the best defenses mix it up enough to cause the other side confusion.

It seems like the coaches feel the secondary doesn't have the ability to just line up and challenge them and make them beat us, particularly with the holes in the middle. So they have them play off and try to prevent the big play, while allowing the LB's to stay closer inside.

In theory, it's not a terrible strategy given the circumstances. It allows our DE's to do what they do best without giving up too much inside the middle and helps reduce the load on our over matched LB's, however...

These are SEC o-lines that can hold up to the rush fairly well anyway, and there's not a QB in the league who cant make a quick throw to a wide open receiver on the edge. Our CB's cant cover that much ground, let alone every play. I think it's a bend-don't-break concept forced more by personnel than by choice. Like mentioned above, our guys get beat playing straight up press coverage. Add on top of that its not just getting out worked, we have had busted coverage on several of the large gains we gave up.

Frankly they still have a lot of work to do. I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

I'd rather see man coverage. We may not have the DB's, but it at least forces the QB to make a good throw. It's not like we're in a conference full of great passing offenses, either.
