"The Book of Manning".....

ANybody else see this yet?....
Was expecting just a highlight reel of Mannings winning games and being compared to their father with some old home movie footage spliced in, but that wasn't it at all.....
It's basically the Archie Mannning is a good-hearted quiet Christian, and a humble SOuthern gentleman story. Had always respected him just by the way he carries himself, but had no idea.....
Very inspirational.
P.S. You ever notice how if it's a story about something POSITIVE that is uniquely Southern.......that the media always downplays the fact that it's a Southern story?.......and tries to package it as an "american" story instead?
Yet...........if it's something politically incorrect and negative and it comes from the South, it's portrayed as just your typical day in the KKK boogie-man infested, undeducated, snake-handling, backwards hateful SOuth?

Have you even seen the movie?
I'm sure that Archie Manning has made plenty of mistakes in life, but there's a different message in the movie that I'm guessing flew over your head...........

I really enjoyed it and now you mention it they did try to make it a national event when in all seriousness all this was far bigger in scale and importance in the south. Still, I enjoyed the hell out of it and I didn't realize how little I actually knew about Archie

Given that he spent 10 years eating dirt for the Aints, I don't blame him for wanting his kids to be in a better position to succeed in their careers.
In fact, I don't understand why most elite players don't go that route. If you're going in the top five, you're going to go to a struggling team and have loads of expectations placed upon you at 22 years old and having zero familiarity with the level of athleticism present from top-to-bottom in the pros.
Better to be a mid/late first rounder, go to a solid team, and then pick up the payday down the road once your rookie contract expires. Hell, it ain't like late round money is bad money anyway.

ONe thing that struck me is how they kept their faith out of the movie....even though it's at the root of everything they do. And how, in real life, they don't beat it over people's heads.
The Tebow etc approach is far less effective................than the humble, mind your own damn businees, quiet Christianity of the Mannings, imo.
Much better to lead by quiet example, than to kneel down like an idiot for the cameras and cry to God because you scored a fricking touchdown.
Respect.

Note that often times Teebow was as far as he could get from everyone on the sidelines when he did this. The cameras just follow him wherever he goes. I prefer the "Manning way" too, but the press is as much to blame as TT was.

Not just that, but if you take away the football part.............I know hundreds of Archie Mannings.
I realize that there are good people all over the world, but.........it's not a coincidence which corner of the world produces more of these types of men.......despite what the media wants you to believe.

I got this from another webiste when I went searching for why Archie and Eli did that. I have no idea the validity of it but it is plausible.

I'm not a christian but I had to go to their school forever and one verse I remember was saying that a true follower of god prays behind closed doors, away from others, as to not flaunt their faith and thus exhibit pride from a perceived superiority. Tebow did all that kneeing shite for the world to see. Sure, may have been talking to god or something, but there's no need to make a show of it.
I'm sure I'll irritate some but I always figure if you're like that then it'd be more effective to be more like Manning and less like Tebow

It's the principle. And Phillip Rivers seems to be doing just fine. I've got no dog in the fight. I just recall it being pretty unprecedented that a player's father would come out and basically shaft the draft system that is in place for the purpose of (trying) to maintain parity in the league.
Might as well screw the draft from now on and let all draftees just choose where they want to play, whatever their reasons are.

I think that's all true but I figure in Archie's case he cared less about the integrity of the league and more about his sons. Not saying it's right but kinda hard to say you wouldn't want the same for your son.
