After re watching the gm late last night...

A couple of things that stood out....

- Feels pressure from his backside pretty well
- Keeps his eyes downfield with pressure in his face in the pocket
- Keeps his eyes down field when scrambling outside the pocket
- If there's not a play, he either threw it away or scrambled
- Steps up in the pocket well
- Identified the front and changed plays at LOS

He threw the ball very efficiently and is effective when he runs. He should have been 10/14, but Patton dropped a good throw from Murphy when he scrambled to his left, and Ajagbe dropped a pretty well thrown ball down near the goal line.

Based on what I saw today out of Murphy as a QB, I see no reason that we cannot be as good, if not a BETTER offense than when we have Driskel. Murphy does a lot of things better than Jeff does as a QB. He may not have the great measurables, but there's more than that to the QB position. I love what Murphy brings to the table, and he seems football smart.

Good assessment.

Murph looked really comfortable sitting in the pocket waiting for plays to develop.
He didn't get unsettled like Driskel tends to get under pressure. He made good decisions in the pocket and on the run.

With our defense, all we need is a good decision maker at QB and he looks the part.

I agree with everything you said.

But it was only Tennessee. Jeff looked great against Tennessee too last year.

I loved Murphy's pocket awareness and quick decision making.

But lets slow our roll here.

It was Tennessee. Driskel looked all-world against them last season but struggled against better competition.

Murphy seems like a smarter player in general (quicker decisions, better pocket awareness, etc.), but we don't know how he'll react against a team with an at least average defense. Should be interesting.

I know that it was Tennessee, but the way he went through his progressions quickly, his footwork and presence in the pocket, his ability to feel the pressure and get outta dodge (unlike Jeff), his decision making, his quickness, etc etc.....I don't care if this was against Slippery Rock. I told my f$u buddy the same exact thing about Jameis after his first game.....and I'm not comparing Murph to Winston at all.

I was probably most impressed with TM's quick release. Very quick release and fast decision maker. I also never realized he was that big. I always thought he was 5'10" for some reason.

as long as TM stays healthy and does not turn the ball over, with our defense we should have a decent year and be in just about every game.

Honestly, what does Driskel do that is better than Murphy? Doubt he is more athletic by much. Stronger arm?

The things in the OP are characteristics of a QB. Really does not matter what type of competition he is going against.

I would say JD has a stronger arm than TM but TM is far better with his feet.

I don't think Murph is any faster than Driskel, but he's probably more elusive. Driskel is a lot stronger and more powerful, though.

But Driskel's running ability was negated by the fact that he never got out of the pocket in time.

While the competition was not nearly the best we will see this year, i was impressed by a few things I saw when TM came into the game

1) TM was calm under pressure, made good decisions
2) Offense had a flow, quick to the ball and snap
3) Fewer flags
4) Better play calling

He has 2 weeks to continue to improve before the big tests start.

On another subject, Mack Brown is the MAN!

He did fumble from under center twice. Hope that clears up but that was really the only issue I saw. Can't give easy turnovers any more we've done this way too much 3 of the last 4 games we've played in.

Disagree. Same plays were called under Driskel.

Visibly though, it just looked "better" and more precise.

Don't discount the work that Chris Leak is doing to help TM adjust. I see some of the same qualities Leak had when he played.
