"I Am a Rebel"? I'm more confused than ever.

What in the wide wide world of sports is the Ole Miss mascot? If the university still officially call itself Rebels, even making commercials to that effect, what was the point of the black bear?

But I thought the whole point of changing the mascot was to get away from the association to the confederacy? Why eliminate the mascot that most Ole Miss students and alumni preferred, to change it to black bears, just to hang onto the name Rebels and make commercials about it?

Well they are.... They're trying to reconfigure the use of "Rebels" as just a normal mascot- not one glorifying the confederacy. UNLV uses the Rebels too, and they certainly weren't CSA
