quote:

Darnell said the NCAA has not started an investigation into Manziel and that there has been no formal allegations made by the NCAA.

Honestly I've wondered about this from the start. No word from A&M. No word from NCAA. Is anything actually happening? Is Rovell that completely fricked up? Way too early to declare victory but it sure looks that way. And will Rovell have a job next week if this turns out to be nothing? I'd hope not.

I think rovell is that fricked up, and i imagine he would still have a job.

Either his lawyer is downplaying the situation or we've all been trolled HARD by ESPN.

Honestly, I couldn't even be mad if it turned out to be the latter That would be just a masterful troll.

It appears to be accidental that ESPN jumped the gun because some guy they talked to figured that a phone call from the NCAA means there is an ongoing investigation. So while ESPN fricked up, it's just that they don't seem to have fact checked. Maybe they got denied when asking but I believe a simple FOIA request from A&M would have done the trick.

And saying "under investigation" is a helluva lot more damning than "looking into". The legal folks at ESPN surely aren't going to ignore this distinction. I imagine in the next 24 hours ESPN clarifies its statements further and drops the investigation wording.

Brent Zwerneman ?@BrentZwerneman 8m Darnell told me he never said there was no NCAA investigation, only 'that's just part of their rules, I can't say yea or nay.'
