Coming in with the wife for the LSU/UGA game and staying in Atlanta. What are some good places for a couple of 40somethings to get a drink and relax?

Atlantic Station - Yard House
Pretty legit beer selection and food is good too.

Somewhere in Buckhead probably. If you like Italian, they have a great chain there called Maggiano's. They give you lots of food and it's fantastic. I used to go there all the time when I lived in the Philadelphia area

U-Bar, Strokers, Cheetah...
ETA: Wait, you have your wife?! Scratch that.
You would want to try Midtown, Atlantic Station, Buckhead, and The Little Five...good times.

It would be funny to walk my wife up to the door of this place just for the reaction. Problem is I would hear about it the rest of the weekend.

If you're into burgers, beer, and whiskey... check out The Vortex.

Empire State South in Midtown has excellent, but a bit pricey, food. The same owners also run 5 and 10 and The National in Athens- the two best restaurants there.
For brunch in ATL, Sun in My Belly in the Kirkwood area is awesome.

I assume it's because you've got friends/family there you are going to see, otherwise, this is a bad decision.
Atlanta is a big city, asking what to do/eat/drink is like asking what to do/eat/drink in New York or Miami. There are so many different neighborhoods and scenes and restaurants and bars, it's really impossible to answer your question.
The Vortex is good for burgers and beers, but people do get shot in the parking lot on a regular basis.

This is the truth. Atlanta is like a ton of mini cities which all of them have some great choices. There is no need to drive far from where you are staying to find an awesome place.
