looking at the series history, I noticed that Ole Miss played in Baton Rouge every game from 1936 until 1952 (no game played in 1943). Any of our resident historians know what the deal was with that? Also, LSU has had a huge home field advantage in the series (as far as location goes)

Baton Rouge- 63 games
Jackson- 16 games
Oxford- 16 games
New Orleans- 3 games
Vicksburg- 1 game
Meridian- 1 game

So thats 66 games played in Louisiana to 34 games played in Mississippi. I wonder if the Ole Miss fans back then bitched about how the SEC hated them and gave LSU all the breaks.

The Germans bombing Pearl Harbor set things back a bit.

Not sure if its the same sort of thing but SC and Clemson originally only played in Columbia for the first chunk of the series.

It had to do with just attracting fans. It was before football was big of course and it coincided with the state fair so to get people to go to the SC-CU game it would be played at the same time as the state fair, in Columbia, and Williams-Brice and the fairgrounds are neighbors to this day for that reason.

It makes it pretty impressive that the series is as close as it is.

I think it boiled down to our fans not minding coming to Louisiana so they could visit New Orleans, and us not having a legit stadium.

Mississippi was too poor for a football stadium back in the day.

So when they got the money they decided to build a stadium instead of edumicate their residents.

Ole Miss wanted to leave the state as much as possible.

Nah... They were pretty awful for many years there... Saban pulled them out of the gutter... Hell, they've never even had an undefeated season.

Maybe because Ole Miss did better than LSU in the series when it was being played every year in Baton Rouge

They were undefeated in 1958

But we've had a undefeated season more recently

Ole Miss hung in during that stretch of Baton Rouge games. They went 6-8. The longest stretch LSU had to play in Mississippi was 2 games. Happened twice. Ole Miss have several multi game streaks of having to play in Louisiana.

Also since we're on the subject....what the hell is this? We have a logo? shite I forget the series even has a name. I'd say near no one refers to it as the "Magnolia Bowl".
