I was trying to think of all the 3-4 base defenses and it seems that Georgia and Bama are the only ones that come to mind unless I am missing someone. Tenn reverted back to the 4-3 this year.

From what I can remember:

BAMA - 3-4 with mulitples
LSU - 4-3 with 4-2-5
A&M - 4-3 (saw they were using some stack)
Ole Miss - 4-2-5
Arkansas - 4-3 (Bielema ran that at least)
Auburn - 4-2-5
Miss St. - 4-3

Georgia - 3-4
Florida - 4-3
South Carolina - 4-3
Vandy - 4-3
Kentucky - 4-3
Tennessee - 4-3
Missouri - 4-3

Anyway, if you are well versed in your team's scheme and philosophy, please illuminate me. It's as good as any offseason topic thread. I would think with Ole Miss, Miss St., Missouri, Auburn, and A&M going to the spread that teams would have some non-traditional sets at least.

Bama plays with 5 DB's more than 4 LB's in most games now. If anything the base is a 3-3-5 and a 3-4 on running downs.

Georgia is a 3-4 but we very, very rarely line up with literally 3 down lineman and 4 LBs. Just about every snap we have a LB or another lineman either on or just behind the LOS.

Yes it is a 3-4, but it doesn't look like one a lot of the time.

Auburn is making the transition to a 4-2-5 under Ellis Johnson now.

While we're at it, should we rank the defensive staffs?

The Rant needs something to argue about.

Wrong. 4-2-5 with some 3-4 principles

Of course, as we saw last year, 3-4 was the superior defense. Look at the SECCG division winners

I think South Carolina has been running the 4-2-5 for several years now.

ETA: Florida runs a variation of the 3-4 with 3 down lineman and a hybrid OLB/DE in a stand-up position.

Dave Wommack runs a 4-2-5 base at OM. Our star Linebacker, Denzel Nkemdiche, plays one of the hybrid positions - Stinger, a LB/Safety hybrid.

You are correct. Although some try to debate the fact by instead referring to our Spur as a linebacker.

Does it really matter? Only the 4-4-4 defense stands a chance of stopping Manziel this year.

Joe Kines ran that garbage 4-2-5 for a couple years under Sherman. It was terrible.

LSU seemed to do well some exotic schemes. At time I was like dafuq?

Like someone said we run the 4-2-5 but it is rumored that we might start putting in some 3-4 packages. Nkemdiche is a 3-4 end IMO.
