I read most of the posts on here and am somewhat surprised that you guys are giving up so easily concerning the Clemson game. Really? UGA could probably lose 3 more starters and still curbstomp the tiggers. When did you all lose your balls and think one player getting suspended for one game will cost us like that? JHC screwed up, its not whether he should be suspended or not ( he should )but the bigger issue is, the dude took.a risk, one that rarely pays off for a UGA athlete, and did it openly and without concern for the consequences. All you guys who want there to be no suspensions, well, letting the screw ups get away with it is a brilliant tactic, no, rather bring the mother frikkin hammer down and send that message, that you better keep your nose ( or lungs in this instance )clean. I say good that he's suspended, send that message, and go out and whip Clemsons arse without him. Next time, make your choices more wisely. Go Dawgs!

Chuck and Chernoff covered this earlier pretty well IMO. It's not a matter of whether he should be punished anymore. That ship sailed. UGA can't go back and say... "You know what. Maybe we'll get rid of the first offense suspension." Even though it would only bring them closer to the pack (and yet still ahead of UF among others.) The mistake was enacting a penalty that will never be universally enforced across the conference (or the NCAA). Most schools that have the same 50% of the season penalty for second offenses have the luxury of never putting the first offense out there publicly unless the kid screws up again. Giving the coaches the chance to take care of it in-house first is more powerful IMO. I just don't see the kids really afraid of the one game suspension.

I do worry that it could come back to bite us in recruiting at some point. I would like to see it taken more seriously by the SEC/NCAA. I just don't think it's likely that they will be willing to do anything... particularly with legalization as a potential trend in those hippie states.

Dont listen to them and learn to read yourself. This was NOT a failed drug test. This was NOT an arrest. This was Richt doing his normal thing. There is no policy for this. richt just Richting.

Ummm. He admitted that he used. According to UGA, that's as good as a positive. As a matter of fact, it's probably better than a positive (tests can fail, too).

There's no gray area here.
You break the rules, you get punished.

What part of Smith, Rambo, Ogletree, Ogletree did JHC not get last season?
How could this rule have slipped by him?

I realize it was not a failed test. The issue is that he admitted it (respectable IMO). Richt AND the University have taken their stance publicly so it is tough to say that they'd overlook it this time. Just because the means by which they found out changed, it doesn't mean the punishment will.

Can't remember but was the pot brownie thing last season and actual arrest or test? It was still a suspension IIRC.

You expect Richt or McG to utilize a technicality? Are you a new UGA fan or something? The "intent" and "principle" is what Richt cares about. At the end of the day, publicly they would have looked hypocritical if they didn't suspend him, regardless of the true "letter of the law."

Rambo failed a test. Secondly, the police questioned him without Miranda, so his confession means squat. They searched the entire dorm and bathroom with permission and found nothing. Deal with this internally and no "hypocrite" stuff would have followed.

Wasn't sure on Rambo but I believe you.

Reporters were already asking about this instance if I'm not mistaken. Miranda means about eff all in this case. Legal vs. Court of public opinion. If I'm wrong about the situation gaining traction with reporters prior to the suspension, then I agree with you.

It's been reported on 247 and Ledger Enquirer.

Check the interwebz.

LOL. The police were called. They filed a report. They included the statements that were made directly to them from the people listed in the report.

The AJC knew Flourney-Smith was asked to pack up and leave and smelled smoke. They found the policy incident report. And reported it.

First off... the police notified UGA coaches.
So, he was going to miss the game regardless if it became public knowledge.

Secondly... UGA has a history of extreme punishment for lying to police and coaches.

JHC did the right thing by coming clean. His punishment for the cover-up could be worse (see Flourney-Smith with his book scandal).

I just don't want to see connor norman take his spot for that game and given our lack of experience at that position that is a distinct possibility. I agree that the kid deserves to be punished for being an idiot though

As long as Brent Venables is still their defensive coordinator, we should be fine.

He got busted and is lucky he didn't get arrested. He's ONE player, not the team. Murray could get busted smoking dope and we could go in with Mason and torch their secondary. We can win without him.

Too bad UGA isn't like bama in the drug testing department.....their 1st offense is no pushinment. They also get 4 times to get caught before getting kicked off the team, while uga goes with the ole 3 strikes and your out policy.

frick I understand if the weed is shitty in Athens, yeah lets keep them from smoking that bobby brown. But Athens has some of the best weed in GA, my research can back this up 100%

These student athletes are making millions for the school and all they get is a free education. shite let them drink and smoke if they want. Suspend them for shite other than drinkin and smokin (DUI is a different story). Atleast most of the arrests for UGA has been alcohol/drug related, while other schools are way worse...remember the UF player shooting a rifle off in public?
